The tips and tricks to getting our cover looks, and how you can emulate it too.
You don’t have to stick with a plain background for a studio shoot. A patterned backdrop, like a wallpaper, laminate or even fabric taped to the wall, makes for an equally lovely backdrop. Some of our favourite places to get beautiful fabrics are Spotlight and Arab Street.

Whether its soft and natural or glamourous with defined eyes, the makeup is always romantic, beautiful and not overdone. Likewise for your hair, think effortlessly elegant styles like loose tumbling curls or a romantic updo.

Sunlight is one of your best bets for stunning and flattering pictures – in fact all of our covers were shot using natural lighting, even when indoors. The general rule of thumb is to face the light, but if your photographer knows how to work it, a backlit photo evokes a dreamy and ethereal vibe. If you’re having your shoot outdoors, we hate to break it to you, but it’s best to have it before 12pm (or in the evening, after 4pm), which means you’ll probably have to get up in the wee hours of the morning to get prepared. Afterwards, the light gets too harsh and you’ll be sweating buckets in the heat – not a good look to have in your portraits.

Depending on the look you’re going for, accessories can help amp up your bridal look. For a Gatsby-esque vibe, think a glitzy headband, a bejewelled tasselled necklace and long dangly earrings. Or if you’re a romantic bride, consider fresh flowers to dress up your tresses, dreamy headpieces and pretty sparkling accents.

The key to looking effortlessly beautiful? It’s always to look at ease, which is why most of our covers are shot with the model sitting down or lounging in a chair. A beautiful chair or chaise lounge also adds to the romantic mood of your photos. One thing we noticed is that many brides (and even models) tend to unknowingly tense up their shoulders – you’ll be surprised at how much difference just dropping or relaxing those shoulders can make.
