Consisting of two separate but interconnected karstic limestone caves (formed by the dissolution of soluble rocks like limestone, dolomite and gypsum), the grotto is located in the Valley of Nahr al-Kalb (Dog River), 20km north of Beirut. It’s a popular spot for tourists who marvel at its majestic rock formations and beautiful river.

Flanked by scenic mountain ranges, the breathtaking crescent-shaped lake is situated at an altitude of about 4,300m in the Himalayas, so it’s best for adventurous couples. In Spring, the banks of the lake are blanketed by thousands of wildflowers.

The scenic landforms are splashed with contrasting hues of brown, red, blue, and green thanks to different densely packed layers of different kinds of mineral and rock. There are sightseeing cars (you can’t travel in your own vehicle and tourist buses aren’t allowed in either) available in the surrounding national park, which has four viewing platforms. The best time to visit? In the morning, and dusk, when the sunlight best reflects the trippy hues, and from June to September which have the best weather conditions.
