I’ve always been a huge fan of artisanal goods. When I travel, I’ll try to bring something back something from that particular country – whether it’s a pair of leather ballet flats from Florence or a piece of hand-died Shibori fabric in Japan. But still, there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of making something yourself. From floral bouquets to personalised leather goods, these are some of the coolest craft workshops happening this month. By Lucy Rees.
What: To celebrate the launch of three limited edition scarves inspired by the display of National Gallery Singapore, homegrown label Matter Prints will be holding a traditional block printing workshop. Fifth generation artisans from India will be present to explain and demonstrate the techniques involved, and you can try your hand at making a printed pocket square too. Valentine’s Day date sorted.
Where: Gallery & Co., National Gallery of Singapore, 1 St. Andrew’s Road
When: Feb 13, 11am-2pm
Cost: $100 per person
What: In this Valentine’s Day special by lifestyle concept store The General Co, learn about all aspects of traditional leather craft, from the different types and properties to the cutting techniques, construction and finishing methods. The workshop is followed by a three-course meal in a private dining area (dishes include salmon cerviche and lobster arrabiata).
