5 Fashion Films To Watch On Netflix Singapore

Online streaming provider Netflix Singapore has (finally) been made available. Here, our picks of the best fashion films we’d love to spend a lazy night in watching.

by ISABEL ONG  /   January 7, 2016

Like the (unrepentant) TV addicts we are, news of Netflix finally being made available in Singapore blew us away and made us sign up immediately to score its free first-month-use promotion (yay!). But while the American on-demand video streaming service’s original TV series – like Orange Is The New Black and Jessica Jones – may top most folks’ must-watch lists, these fashion-centric shows are the ones we’d love to spend the entire weekend watching. 5 Fashion Films To Watch On Netflix Singapore
#1: Grease (1978)

Proof that the Grease effect is still going strong, all these years after it first landed on screens: It girl Gigi Hadid went as titular character Sandy Olsen for Halloween last year and got the sex appeal down to a T, from the skin-tight leather pants to a black cropped top and jacket ensemble. What we love most about the movie: How Olsen transforms from goody-two-shoes to a bad*ss chick (check it out in this musical number “You’re The One That I Want“).

#2: Sex & The City: The Movie (2008)

The TV series made Carrie Bradshaw and Manolo Blahniks household names. The movie spawned article after article dissecting the quartet’s amazing outfits in brands like Dior, Gucci and Ralph Lauren (and that Vivienne Westwood wedding dress Bradshaw wore in the first film). With quotable quotes like “No (I don’t need a diamond), just get me a very big closet”, you know you’re in for one big dose of sartorial envy. Watch the trailer here.

#3: Clueless (1995)

The setting: Beverly Hills High. The stars: Ultra-rich Cher and nerdy new girl Tai. Whether or not you’re a fan of teen flicks, this one gets our vote for Cher’s to-die-for revolving wardrobe, which comes packed to the brim with the girliest outfits.

#4: Iris (2014)

Watching this 80-minute documentary on New York fashion legend Iris Apfel’s life once isn’t enough. This feel-good flick (Apfel’s joie de vivre is infectious) gives you an inside look into her day-to-day living, from her eclectic apartments (and even a warehouse full of treasured antiques and vintage finds) to shopping trips, interviews and photoshoots. Get a peek here.

#5: Atelier (2015)

While this technically isn’t a film, this Netflix original series is worth mentioning here: It stars an all-Japanese cast and centres on a young girl, Mayuko, who joins a high-end lingerie brand and gets a taste of all the inner workings of the industry, from manufacturing to advertising and organising a runway show. Reviews sound promising so far, but you can be the judge. Watch the trailer here.
