If you’re not yet familiar with Alex Blake Charlie Sessions, it’s the first music festival in Singapore to feature an all-women line-up, featuring both fast-rising names such as Aussie crooner Stella Donnelly (pictured above), beloved electro Swedish songstress Anna of the North and established acts such as LCD Soundsystem (ladies Nancy Whang and Gavin Rayna Russom will be repping). Organised by the same folks behind Laneway Singapore, it’s safe to say that the festival is in very good hands – and an interesting venue too. Get your tickets here.

Andre Hemer’s Images Cast by the Sun at Yavuz Gallery
image

If you’re in the Gillman Barracks area to check out the sprawling Singapore Biennale (there are 11 sites in total spread out over the island), do make sure to make a pitstop at Yavuz Gallery.  Kiwi artist Andre Hemer returns for a second exhibition with the gallery and his works, a collage of digital prints and copious layers of paint, are mesmerising. Details here.

On now till Dec 22, 11am – 7pm (weekdays), 12pm – 5pm (Sunday)

The Council: Ice Factory Rave
image

Fine techno purveyors The Council is bringing its last rave of the year to a favourite venue – Tuck Lee Ice. Dress appropriately – we’re not kidding here, temperatures will hit sub-zero – and get ready for a night to remember, with both familiar names Cats on Crack and a list of rising names from around the region spinning. Get your tickets now – they’re down to the last 50 or so.

Dec 7, 8pm – 3am

The World Around The Corner

Organised in conjunction with ArtScience Museum’s newly opened 2219: Futures Imagined exhibition, this four-day event has gathered some of Singapore’s best in the literary scene to speculate the changes we might face in the next 50 years. There are workshops that teach dystopian writing (very hot right now, though there’s also a new rising genre called “hopepunk”), readings with Singapore authors, film screenings (Never Let Me Go, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and even book prescription sessions – where presumably, you’ll be prescribed a good book to read?  Sounds good to those of us too lazy to find a new title to read. Details here.

Dec 5 – 8, various times

Culture Cartel 2019

Following a massively successful inaugural edition last year, Culture Cartel is back at the F1 Pit Building, taking over all three floors with offerings not only for annoying hypebeasts but also those interested in other aspects of street culture, including tattoos art and toys. Renowned toy designers such as Coarse and Luke Chueh from Los Angeles will be conducting workshops on their craft, while popular watercolour tattoo artist such as Sasha Unisex, who has over 800K followers on Instagram, will also be inking in person. Check out the full line-up here.
