This week, don’t miss out on the pithily titled All New Feastival – an F&B initiative supported by Chope that sees 28 of Singapore’s most well-known restaurants and bars offering up new dishes and menus creating to combat the malaise (financial, mental, you name it) of this current lockdown period.
Over at independent art venue Comma Space, artist Anthony Chin questions the feasibility of an alternative funding model for contemporary art in Singapore through a literal pillar of S$1 coins.
And raise your spirits for a night with Cabaret Joy, a virtual event dedicated in homage to cabaret, promising us a fun night of drag, stand-up comedy, burlesque and more.
Independent art venue Comma Space‘s latest exhibition is a curious one. Titled S$1,996/- S$831.06/-, this solo exhibition at artist Anthony Chin aims to build a column of S$1 coins in order to investigate the value of art, labour and sustainability.
A donation drive, titled S$1,966/-, was conducted from 26 June to 4 July this year to collect $1 coins as materials for the artwork. Exactly 1,996 pieces of Singapore legal tender one-dollar would be needed to stack up to form the artist’s proposed column that stretches from the floor to Comma Space’s 4.4-metre high ceiling.
The donation drive outcome collected a total of S$831.06/-. Rather than a failure, the artist sees this as an accurate reflection of reality and an answer to the artist’s question about the feasibility of an alternative funding model for contemporary art in Singapore.

It’s no news that the F&B sector has been one of the worst-hit during the pandemic, which has only been exacerbated with the current third round of closures and many players (established or not) have been forced to quit the scene.
A new initiative supported by Chope is hoping to lend some help – pithily named All New Feastival – sees some of Singapore’s most well-known restaurants and bars coming together and providing new menus for a delivery programme during this lockdown period. Names include Cheek Bistro, Firangi Superstar, National Kitchen by Violet Oon Singapore, Open Farm Community, Prego, Atlas and more.
“Through this initiative, we hope to give both sides a boost – restaurants can continue to flex their creative muscle, while diners can look forward to devouring exciting new dishes while supporting their favourite eateries,” says Dinesh Balasingam, chief business officer of Chope.
On now till August 15, exclusively on Chope
