Beerfest Asia is back for its ninth installment this year from 17 to 20 August, complete with an entirely new venue at Marina Bay Cruise Centre. This year’s edition will include a massive string of over 500 local and international breweries (from all new entrants to returning ones), coupled with various on-site fringe activities to set the mood of the festival. The highlights of the event? There will be beer masterclasses and workshops which are all complimentary to festival goers on a first come first served basis. You will be able to try your hand at brewing your own beers and gather insightful information through talks with the breweries’ head honchos. There’ll also be a variety of food offerings, pop-up bars and even a beer yoga session.
Below, we pick out the best bespoke beers to try and other highlights from the event to look out for.
Opened in 2006, this brewery promises to only use the freshest of ingredients for its locally handcrafted and individually handmade beers. What to expect from the festival: they will be introducing a festival exclusive brew known as Small Batch! and four new highly anticipated Singlish beers: Ah Ka Ji Craft Lager, Tok Kong American IPA, Ki Siao Brown Ale and the Sibeh Ho Witbier. Sick.
Founded in 2008, Brewlander & Co aims to pay homage to classic beer styles with their own twist. They only use malts from England and Europe, and liquid yeast cultures in their beers. The brand currently offers four different types (the Courage double IPA, the Love wild IPA, the Hope summer ale, and the Pride saison), which all cater to different beer drinkers.
The newest kid on the block amongst the mentioned three is The 1925 Microbrewery and restaurant. It is housed in a two-storey shophouse where four 600-litres beer tanks reside on the ground level. This brewery serves up five different types of beers (The Yellow Van, Small Monster, Blk 622, The General and Manuka Stout) from exotic to clean, crisp flavours.
Formed by the team behind Singha, Thailand’s latest lager U Beer will be making its inaugural entrance to Singapore. Inspired by European lagers, U Beer offers a smooth taste and is brewed for the millennial generation with its spunky, modern outlook.
Globally-known Brooklyn brewery will finally be making its debut into the Singapore beer scene. They will be introducing its barrel-aged beers, a first for the adventurous palates of the local beer lovers.
Stark Craft Beer has partnered with local handcrafted ice-cream brand Creamier for the upcoming festival. A must-try at the festival: Stark Lychee Ale with Creamier’s Raspberry Love.
If you dig Mediterranean cuisine, then here’s the place to pop by. Beirut Grill will be serving up authentic Lebanese and Arabic cuisines with star dishes such as Hummus and Chicken Shawarma Wrap.
This hotly sought after pop-up store specialising in quail eggs will be making an appearance this weekend at the festival. Our recommendation? The Mentaiko Quail Eggs to complement the wide array of beers available at the festival.
