The Last Mile is a festival-like tribute to soon-to-be-closed cultural landmark Golden Mile Complex. Last month, music and gastronomy event organiser Thugshop (the mastermind behind beloved techno landmark Headquarters) conceptualised an all-new pop-up party called XXL. The electrifying party was all about techno – dished out by Thugshop’s very own resident DJs Ma De, Deen and Vaib. Its iteration this month looks to the French techno scene for its headliner. Leading figure of the new generation of French DJs, Anetha, comes to Singapore for the very first time with her repertoire of futuristic techno, trance and experimental sets. Located at the all-new club MDLR (62 Cecil Street, #02-00), expect a night of stomping bangers supported by Thugshop’s DJ Haan, who compliments Anetha’s sets perfectly with his dark sombre groove and hypnotic stomps.

Expect a line-up of local acts, from the likes of up-and-coming Tashasan with her electrifying beats to homegrown veteran Darren Dubwise with his head-bangers – all within local techno landmark Headquarters in Boat Quay.

Supporting him are local DJs James Selva, Leland, and HBN, all of whom are mainstays in nightlife events locally.

The Strange Weather team has always sought to push the format of raves, exceeding its patrons’ expectations with every party. With their firm belief that other mediums should exist hand in hand with otherworldly music, you’ll never know what to expect stepping into one of the collective’s parties. Take for instance, the upcoming iteration titled Upacara Kampret! on Mar 18, where Strange Weather will be hosting Uwalmassa, an Indonesian trio of DJs who play an eclectic mash of synthetic, percussive and acoustic sounds in an undisclosed location (which will be revealed a day before the party itself).
Along with their set, movement artist collective Ragaura will be performing live in accompaniment with Alina Li’s visual light shows. That’s not all though – there will be performances by solo guitarist Rudi Osman and music collective Aftervolter, along with Strange Weather’s very own A’alely and Yetpet as well as Jakarta-based techno maestro Django on the decks. There’s even a solo exhibition of Indonesian artist Arwin Hidayat’s works before from 5pm to 8pm – where he will be selling some of his drawings and contemporary one-off batiks from Indonesia.

Queer party collective Bussy Temple has created some of the best local raves post-pandemic since its inception a year ago – so you would expect their upcoming first anniversary party, at Iki, to be one of the most anticipated parties this month.
In collaboration with HER 他, a collective that advocates for gender equality behind the decks, Bussy Temple will be bringing in a global, all-female and non-binary line-up. Look forward to pole dancer Beforeiko’s performance and sets by Malaysia-based rEmPiT g0dDe$$ and Suhsi and Melbourne-based Cloudy Ku alongside Bussy Temple’s very own Metamoshka and music collective Strange Weather’s YetPet. This plethora of subversive and genre-transcending music is accompanied by visuals from multidisciplinary artist Chilisweetie – so you know that all of your senses are in for a treat.
