When you think of burgers, it shouldn’t just be unhealthy fast food that comes to mind. Burgers can be a form of comfort food for some or even an indulgence in a fancy venue. But whatever it is that a burger means to you, you can’t deny that they come in many forms and there’s always one (or more!) that will satisfy your craving. Here are a smattering of the most exciting burger joints in Singapore that will keep you going back for more.
Its menu states that the burgers are “best eaten with your hands” and who are we to argue with this wise advice? And with burger names like Rambo (superior 120g lamb patty, feta, aubergine pickle & cumin aioli in a wholemeal bun, $20) and Smokin’ B-Boy (prime 120g beef patty, double applewood smoked cheddar, Dingley Dell beer & treacle cured bacon, BBQ ketchup, smoky mayo & crisp onions in a demi brioche bun, $25), you will want to grab them by the hands anyway. All the gourmet burgers are made with the finest ingredients and with bespoke artisan buns and homemade, slow-cooked sauces. You won’t go thirsty here either, with a wide selection of drinks including milkshakes, wines, beers and homemade sodas that are concocted with natural ingredients and no preservatives or colourings. Also try their range of classic, frozen and craft bottled cocktails ($16) which are made daily by their bartenders.

What started as a burger joint along Upper Thomson Road eight years ago has grown into a chain with six outlets in Singapore, and branches in Kuala Lumpur, Beijing and Phnom Penh too. And the reason why Fatboy’s has been such a success is simple – its burgers are very tasty. Specialty burgers include The Elvis (bacon stuffed pork patty, grilled bananas and creamy peanut butter on a honey oat bun, $11), Fat Basterd (double beef chuck patties, chewy bacon, cheddar cheese, a fried egg and homemade Fatboy’s BBQ sauce on sesame seed bun, $19.80) and Bolly Wooly (juicy lamb patty, on a bed of lettuce and tomato, smothered with homemade curry remoulade and topped mango chutney on a honey oat bun, $12). You can also choose to Build Your Own Burger (BYOB), which gives you over 25 toppings, 11 sauces and four types of buns and patties to choose from so there’s always a way to try something new.

Cheeseburgers take centrestage here and the Omakase way includes using 100% USDA Choice-grade premium cuts, which are then ground, blended and hand-formed into patties. They also use locally-baked artisanal buns, which you’ll appreciate as soon as you bite into them. There are five types of cheeseburgers (priced from $14.90) but fret not, chicken lovers, as there’s one for you too – the Omakase Chicken Sandwich ($14.90). And there’s also always a Vegetarian Burger, which rotates often so check with staff if you’d like to order this. If you’re really hungry, turn any burger into a double for just $5.95.

No, there’s no wolf meat served here; the moniker was chosen because the burgers are “so good you will wolf them down”. The beef patties are ground and shaped daily and with no preservatives added. But beef isn’t the only thing on the menu, there are a couple of chicken options too, as well as a vegetarian option, the Tofu Miso Veggie Burger. There are some exciting choices for fries here, including Kimchi Cheese Fries, Truffle Parmesan Fries, Smores Fries and Sweet Potato Fries. And try the Horlicks Vanilla Milkshake, which is topped with cornflake crumble and is a crowd favourite.

A branch of a chain that originated in Los Angeles, this is a burger and liquor bar that adds a sophisticated twist to the American burger bar concept. Its name is apt too, as 25 degrees is the precise temperature difference between a raw and a well-done hamburger. You’ll get a taste of the American West Coast in the heart of Singapore and you can also craft your own burger so why not try something different with every visit? Also, it’s open till 1am from Sundays to Thursdays and till 3am on Fridays and Saturdays, making it a great choice for late-night munchies.

They might be ‘blur’ but they sure do know how to make yummy burgers. Started by two friends who shared a passion for good burgers and pastries, they have not only realised their dream but shared it with others too. The concept is New York cafe style and the location is in the heart of the CBD. As for the food, well, there are six signature burgers to choose from, with options that include prime beef, grilled chicken and smoked salmon. But make sure you keep some space for dessert as they also serve a range of luscious pastries and cake that are the perfect way to end a meal.

Who says burgers can only be enjoyed with meat patties? VeganBurg is the world’s first 100% plant-based burger joint that started in San Francisco in 2010 and is now on our sunny shores too. It puts the ‘healthy’ into comfort food and, best of all, it’s delicious too. The Hawaiian Teriyaki ($8.90) combines a pan-grilled pineapple slice with a soy patty glazed with teriyaki sauce and the Cracked Mayo ($6.90) is a signature burger with a crispy soy patty, garden fresh lettuce and egg-and-dairy-free mayonnaise. This place is definitely all it’s cracked up to be.

If pork is your meat of choice, head here immediately. Dojo used to be at Circular Road but its new outlet opens in the heart of Orchard Road in late April. The pork patties used here are seasoned with a secret family recipe, which gives them a unique taste that will turn you into a returning customer. And the burgers are all assembled using the freshest ingredients, with no fillers, MSG or added preservatives. Little Dragon ($13) is made with juicy grilled pork steak, tomato and a slice of melted cheese – so simple but oh-so-good. Or go for the Big Boss ($15), with a savoury pork patty, fried onion ring, egg, melted cheese and crispy bacon.

It might be a bit hard to find – its entrance is at the back of a lane – but once you’re there, chances are you won’t want to leave. The concept is simple – American-style burgers and beers that will hit the spot each time. There are many variations of the cheeseburger, such as Double Cheeseburger ($26.90), Double Bacon Cheeseburger ($29.40), Jalapeno Bacon Cheeseburger ($20.80) and Sriracha Cheeseburger ($18.80). There are also a few Hold The Burger options – with no patties – priced from $12. Wash them all down with a beer or one of their milkshakes ($11.80).
