#1: The Sound of Music (7 - 26 Nov)

One of the world’s most famous and popular musicals, the original 1959 Broadway production is not one to miss. Winning a total of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the iconic show was also adapted into a 1965 movie starring Julie Andrews as Maria, where it won five Oscars, including Best Picture. Sing along to classic hits such as Do-Re-Mi, Edelweiss, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, and of course, the timeless title song, The Sound of Music. Mastercard Theatres, Marina Bay Sands, 10 Bayfront Ave. $65-$185 per ticket. #2: French Film Festival (9 - 19 Nov)

The French Film Festival returns with a bang this year with 16 of the best movies in contemporary French cinema. The slew of critically-acclaimed, award-winning films range from exciting sci-fi flicks and inspirational biopics, to hair-raising thrillers and hilarious comedies. Don’t miss the chance to catch some of the biggest French stars on the big screen, including celebrated actors like Marion Cotillard and Audrey Tautou. #3: Mosaic Music Series 2017 (10 - 14 Nov)

The long-running Mosaic Music Series by Esplanade is back with a very strong international lineup, including artists from countries like Norway, Denmark and Japan. Highlights that you shouldn’t miss: Canadian singer-songwriter Feist, a four-time Grammy Award nominee who just released her sixth studio album, Pleasure, as well as local electronic band Canvas Conversations and musician FERRY, who will put on a show in collaboration with visual artist Aqilah Misuary. #4: Singapore International Film Festival (23 Nov - 3 Dec)

This is the month for the film fanatic – apart from the French Film Festival, the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) is also returning for its 28th anniversary. Two programs stand out for this year’s edition of the festival – the 15th anniversary of I Not Stupid and Talking Cock The Movie, and Classics: Secret Spies Never Die! The former will celebrate the two iconic Singaporean films under the Singapore Panorama section, while the latter will look at Cold War espionage films. #5: Alt-J - Live in Singapore (29 Nov)

English indie rock band alt-J is retuning to our sunny shores after their last concert here in 2015. Promoting their third studio album, Relaxer, the Mercury Prize winning trio is known for breaking out onto the music scene with their critically acclaimed debut album, An Awesome Wave, back in 2012.
