All The Cool, Cultural Events To Check Out This October
#1: Noise x GIF Fest (5 - 11 Oct)
image

Noise Singapore has teamed up with kult to host a festival that celebrates GIF as an artistic medium (yes, GIF as in Graphics Interchange Format, which is present on just about every social media platform). This novel festival will explore GIF’s role as a form of digital art in culture and new media, with activities like GIF masterclasses and workshops. Also look out for performances by our own local talents such as musician Intriguant (pictured) and electronic duo .gif. 12-10pm, Gillman Barracks, 9 Lock Road. Admission is free

Slated to perform is an impressive round-up of both local and international acts, such as London DJ duo Eli & Fur, Belgian DJ and producer The Magician as well as local musician Jasmine Sokko. Pop-up stalls by burger joint 21 Sliders and popular cafe The Lab will also serve up some delicious grub for hungry festival-goers. 3pm-3am, Wave House Sentosa, 36 Siloso Beach Walk. Admission is free via sign-up through the iGo app

This film festival, run by students from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. This time, the festival’s theme is ‘Rebels’, with the line-up carefully curated to celebrate filmmakers, characters, and even institutions that fervently fight against the mainstream. Highlights include the Singapore premiere of three acclaimed films – documentary film City of Ghosts, Polish horror-musical The Lure and drama film I Am Not A Witch. $11-$13 per ticket, visit www.perspectivesfilmfestival.com for locations and show timings

The five-piece pop group will be playing a one-night-only show as part of their Larger Than Life tour, with many fans expected to fly in from all around the region as this will be the boys’ only performance in Asia. Unfortunately, tickets have long been sold out, so if you managed to get your hands on one, count yourself lucky. 8-930pm, Singapore National Stadium, 1 Stadium Dr. $108-$248 per ticket
