The line-up of parties for April is looking to be another riotous affair. From a surprise final farewell to Golden Mile Complex to a party in the fever dream that is Haw Par Villa, there is a shindig for every kind of reveller this month. Scroll on for details.
If you’re still reminiscing about The Last Mile – a festival-like party night held in March at Golden Mile Complex before the building makes way for redevelopment in May – fret not. Music collective’s Purnrao Killa party is an excuse to have one last dance at the iconic Beach Road landmark. Held at popular hangout Purnrao KTV, the event melds the charm of a unique location with tantalising beats. With acts hailing from the collective itself like Dang and Ulysses dishing out house, techno and psychedelic anthems, the party is the perfect requiem to a location known for its cultural significance with the rave community here.

Since its inception in Feb, pop-up techno party series XXL by music and gastronomy event organiser Thugshop (they’re behind beloved techno landmark Headquarters) has already found fans within the scene. Its upcoming edition on April 14 looks to the Los Angeles scene for its headliner: Damian Lazarus. Having played at festivals like Burning Man and his very own Day Zero Festival, this will be Lazarus’ first time spinning his repertoire of futuristic techno and house sets in Singapore. Located at recently opened club Mdlr (62 Cecil Street, #02-00), expect a night of stomping bangers supported by local DJ Aman Anand, who compliments Lazarus’s sets perfectly with his electronica, progressive house, and deep techno.

In this one-off live gig meets rave event, the best of Singapore’s youth music scene is shown in its full glory. To start the night, look forward to high-energy performances by indie rock heavyweights Stopgap and psych-punk trio Cactus Cactus (both will be playing new material from their upcoming EPs). Thereafter, local DJ Moonpiercer will be spinning alongside up-and-coming Dusseldorf-based Lucra400 for an unforgettable and sweat-inducing night full of head-banging tracks.

All-time favourite Brew is arguably one of the best daytime parties in the country. Situated in the backyard of Chye Seng Huat Hardware, its upcoming edition on April 15 invites a special guest from Indonesia – Potato Head Bali’s very own resident DJ Dita – to grace the decks alongside the usual suspects from music collective DarkerThanWax. Her mastery over multiple genres such as proto-house, disco, ’90s breaks and Balearic beats is an auditory experience like no other. On top of that, having great booze and food at an arm’s length away is definitely a bonus for us.

This month’s version of Daydream Nation – a recurring party by indie and punk priestess Ginette Chittick – returns to where the party began: in the heart of The Projector at Golden Mile Tower. On top of playing favourites from genres spanning shoegaze, rock, punk, indie and more, the event is free of charge – so put your dancing shoes on for a recession-proof night of letting down your hair.
This month, the Surrealist halls of Haw Par Villa are going to be filled up with energetic music beats and a whole lot of dancing. Held by music event organiser Blackout Agency in celebration of its sixth anniversary, the party features John Talabot, one of Spain’s best electronic music exports. His boundary-pushing music has brought him to renowned festivals like Primavera Sound and Nuits Sonores as well as clubs all around Europe. This experimental spirit is shared by his supporting acts, local veterans Aalely from music collective Strange Weather and Sivanesh from party outfit Sivillian Affairs. Definitely an approach to music that is befitting for an otherworldly venue like this.
