Fridge art has nothing on these Smeg babies. After all, the designs on the body of these Fab 28 refrigerator models, by the Italian appliance brand known for its ’50s influence, is not your usual crayon and paper affair.
The exuberant and eye-popping designs, which cover every square inch of the fridge’s exterior, were created by eight Sicilian artists who handpainted typical historical and cultural motifs synonymous to the region. Among these are the pupi puppets and majolica earthenware.
The brains behind this artistic licence: Dolce & Gabbana, which is no stranger to championing Sicily in their own label, with prints and inspirations taken from the island forming the mood board of their collections season after season.
A total of 100 exclusive Smeg fridges will be produced from this collaboration, making their debut at next month’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2016. Imran Jalal previews the highlights.
