Listen To Our Favourite Singapore DJs Now

Our party-loving editor singles out the Singapore DJs to know, and their party playlist.

by NOELLE LOH  /   December 17, 2015

I’ll come clean: I love to party, and the best ones are able to get everyone in the room dancing and singing along to what’s blasting over the sound system. From experience, that usually means a soundtrack with a mix of pop (come on, nothing’s more killjoy than a music snob), hip hop, electro and a thumping bass. In essence, a play list that surprises and is never too serious.

Here are my picks of mixmasters in Singapore who never fail to deliver, along with a teaser of what to expect on their party playlist. #soreadytohitthedancefloor

Bobby Luo aka Pingpongpanda

As the co-founder of the now-defunct Butter Factory, he was the guy who brought the closest to club kid culture to Singapore. As a DJ, he brings on the same kitschy fun quotient, updating classic disco hits with a side of infectious electro house. That outrageous wardrobe of his (what he’s got on in the picture above is tame) scores him extra points. For details on his next gig: www.facebook.com/yumyumdiscodong (a word of advice: dress up).

On his party playlist:
Champion & Four Tet – Flip Side
Denis Sulta – A.A.S (Nite & Day Mix)
CamelPhat – Haus

David Teng aka Dave Does

This is the guy who can flit from fashion set fave Lykke Li, to hip hop badass Eve, to so-bad-it’s-good Backstreet Boys, to retro Bonnie Tyler in one night – and leave the crowd asking for more when the lights go on (I’ve seen it happen). Which is also why this is the guy we had helm the decks at the finals party of FemaleGP: The Best Dressed Edition last year. Hear him next at Overeasy on Dec 18, Tanjong Beach Club on Dec 19, and Zouk‘s Velvet Underground on Christmas Day.

On his party playlist:
Griz X Big Gigantic – Good Times Roll
Slynk featuring AfroQBen & Max Ribner – Front Yard Futon
The Electric Press – Fish To Fry

Our favourite all-girl DJ trio founded by Female Collective member Amanda Keisha Ang. A night with them usually means dancing that could escalate into wild trashing and, at times, dancing on furniture – all signs of a great party. How they get the crowd thumping? With a fun mash-up of house, hip-hop, jungle, drum and bass, and a tinge of pop. Catch them next on New Year’s Eve at Blujaz cafe.

On their party playlist:
kidkanevil feat. Ocean Wisdom – EWOK
Fracture – Loving Touch
Africa Hi-Tech – Out in The Streets

If you like Bauuer’s Harlem Shake, Beyonce’s 7/11 or even G-Dragon and Taeyang’s Good Boy, you’ve been exposed to trap music, and these are the guys to go to for the real, hard core deal. Their consistently explosive sets sound like a fusion of hip hop, rap, dubstep and trippy synthesizers. You will bop your head; the crowd will look gangsta. No word yet on their next gig, but you can follow them on www.facebook.com/owemoneypaymoney.

On their party playlist:
Gucci Man & Waka Flocka Flame – Young N****z
Dub Phizix – Salford John
O$P$ – DCD & GPG
