Singapore-based design studio Lopelab will kickstart its sixth edition of Urban Ventures this coming weekend from 19-21 May. If you’re up for an evening filled with music performances, art activities and a wide variety of mouthwatering food options to choose from, then you have to drop by Duxton Plain Park and watch how it transforms into a more vibrant and youthful space through this exciting event.
Unlike its previous installation in February where the main focus was on Singapore’s hottest up-and-coming musical talents, the latest edition is now catered to art lovers.
The highlight of the event? The brains behind illustration studio Paintinks by melt, Melissa Tan, together with businesswomen Irina Chuchkina and Monica Maestre will be decorating a plain pedestrian underpass with their artworks. Melissa will be transforming one side of the underpass with a mural, drawing inspiration from the popular “Secret Garden” colouring books, while Irina and Monica will install a global art project dubbed as “Before I Die” on the wall which allows the public to share their personal aspirations on the wall (yes, you can actually write them down on the wall itself with the chalk provided).
The event will also feature a variety of other fringe activities such as urban walking tours, yoga classes, salsa dance sessions and of course, performances – and not just any performances, the organisers have partnered up with revered DJ collective Darker Than Wax for a night filled with heart-thumping beats and groovy tunes for ultimate alfresco vibes.
With such an exciting event coming up, we just had to curate a list of fun, artsy buys for you to wear this weekend.
