On this day last year, we marked our 45th Anniversary Bash by transforming a shophouse into our own club called Studio 45 – a cheeky homage to Studio 54 – with a nearly 300-strong crowd made up of stars like actress Fiona Xie and the industry’s hippest tastemakers.

To get party-ready for our big bash, we took our cameras to capture four friends of the magazine – silat champ Nurul Suhaila, models Nadia Rahmat and Hanli Hoefer, and girl-about-town Guan Min – to create a party-ready look using the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup.

In April 2019 we had not one, but three cover stars for the April 2019 Anniversary Edition who are trailblazers in their own right. First up is the young Hollywood actress Sophia Lillis, 18, who got her breakthrough role as Beverly Marsh in It (2017).

Mikaela Straus – the Brooklyn-born musician who performs under the oxymoronic moniker King Princess – graced our cover too, bringing her refreshing brand of self-confidence to our shoot. FYI: The first thing she does when she arrives on set was to tell the makeup artist not to touch up her eyebags; she likes them the way they are.

To wrap up our 45th anniversary bash in Dec, we set up our own private dive bar during the Alex Blake Charlie Sessions all-female music festival which featured acts such as Alma, Stella Donnelly, and Cate Le Bon. Held in the former Pasir Panjang Power Station, we ended the year with great beats and the perfect company.
