Coda Culture: Opening Party Show!
image

Independent art space Coda Culture has just relocated from its old digs to a prime new location at Aliwal Street (that’s Kampong Glam) and for their opening show, they’re showcasing plenty of works by a dizzying array of local artists (more than 50), including Priyageetha Dia, Divaagar, Nor, Chand Chandramohan and many many more. It’s one of the best shows that capture where Singapore’s independent art scene is at the moment, so if that’s your thing, this is 100% a must-attend exhibition. Details here.

Home Kitsch Home

Artist Kelly Lim, who goes by the pseudonym kllylmrck, is a magician at spinning intricate pocket universes out of her signature medium, crochet. Her latest show, titled Home Kitsch Home, explores the idea of ordinary everyday objects and their potential as emotional companions to us – as anyone who’s a hoarder can testify. In her hands, an easily overlooked household item such as fly swatters are transformed via crochet into miniature, kimo-kawaii (Japanese for grotesque-cute) marvels – just see the photo above. More details here.

Ice Cream Sundays x Darker Than Wax: Open Door #4
image

Ok, so technically this is next Monday – but that’s a public holiday so we’re just gonna stick it in here anyway. New pop-up art destination Twenty Twenty, a former ship repair warehouse, was one of the buzziest sites during the recent Singapore Art Week and now, it’s the next location for party series Ice Cream Sundays’ next gig. While the warehouse itself is pretty expansive, we’re not exactly sure how the organisers will delineate a safe space around the artworks, most of which are installation pieces and are dotted randomly throughout the warehouse. Either way, there’ll be a great line up of DJs playing everything from Afrobeat to Asian funk, Brazilian boogie, Chicago house and more. Details here.

Aussie Bushfire Fundraiser - Kilo Kitchen, Green Is The New Black
image

Looking for something to do that’s NOT related to the Lunar New Year festivities? Here’s a more-than-worthy cause to support; environmentally-responsible organisation Green Is The New Black is teaming up with Kilo to put together one of the most impressive efforts to fund-raise for the ongoing fires in Australia. For starters, the menu is entirely vegetarian and was custom-designed by the Kilo team and each ticket-holder stands to win “conscious” prizes such as staycations at Parkroyal on Pickering (one of the most eco-conscious hotels in Singapore).

Even more impressive is the fact that everyone involved here is giving away or donating their time, effort, products etc – with 100% of funds raised going towards Australian charities fighting the fires. Be there. Get your tickets here.

Another effort donating all of their proceeds to the Australian fires is regular party series Kampong Boogie, who will be returning to the roof top of Victoria Wholesale Centre for another no-frills but 100% thrills open air party that’s free of judgement – just dress light. Details here.
