Still figuring out what to do over the upcoming Labour Day weekend? Indulge in a pampering retreat at these stylish new hotels in the region – all of which are less than three hours away via plane.
This is the best spot for those who seek calm, but don’t want to be too far away from the hustle and bustle either. The resort is located just a short walk away from the busy streets of Seminyak, but its secret gardens, naturally shaded public spaces, vertical green walls and landscape terraces – all designed by Singapore-based architecture firm URBNarc – provide that element of peace. It features not one, but four swimming pools, which is pretty rare for any establishment.
If the public spaces within the resort sound good enough to lure you in, then the modern rooms with floor to ceiling glass windows offering stunning views of the ocean will simply seal the deal. From USD$236 (S$319)/night
Love the hip atmosphere at Potato Head beach club in Seminyak? Then you’ll dig Katamama, a resort opened by the same people – the Jakarta-based PTT family – that’s located right next door. Katamama, which means ‘what mama says’ in the Malay language, wants to be your home away from home. Its design concept includes some of the coolest pieces in furnishings: side chairs by Arne Jacobsen, chairs by Le Corbusier and lamps by Louis Polusen.
Opened in April 2016, each of the 58 suites has its own outdoor private area and comes with a bar station, complete with an ice well, limited-edition custom-made cocktail equipment, and a full sized selection of fine infused spirits, natural syrups and aromatic bitters. Wake up to complimentary tea and freshly ground coffee delivered to your door every morning. From $556/night
Hotels within Bali’s mountainous region of Ubud typically promote their rustic charm, but Bisma Eight gets that rustic is not everyone’s cup of tea. Opened last year by Suraj Melwani, who is behind fashion label Sifr and Orchard Central’s Pact store, the 38-suite property brings a touch of the urban environment into Ubud with rooms that cleverly mix Balinese fixtures with concrete, steel and glass elements.
The highlight of each room (measuring around 538 to 581 sq ft) is a voluminous Japanese-inspired soaking tub crafted from aromatic cedar wood that comes accompanied with bath salts specially created for Bisma Eight. Not to be missed either: The rooftop infinity temperature-controlled pool to accommodate the cooler months from July to August. From $238/night
The hotel, which opened earlier this month, is the first luxury resort to be built on the island in the last 10 years. All of the rooms – 85 suites and four villas – offer expansive, unobstructed views of the beach and the Andaman sea, which you can swim in within the 1,076,400 sq ft wide private swimming lagoon.
To complement the stunning view, rooms have been designed with Middle Eastern influences to conjure up a “dreamlike atmosphere”. And as an opening deal, the resort is offering 30 per cent off from now until September 30. From US$580 (S$784)/night
Kuala Lumpur is not a city known for its hip boutiques, and so The Journal is a nice alternative to the big established hotel chains that are so often devoid of character. Located in Bukit Bintang, the city’s main shopping and entertainment district, its 300 sq ft-wide rooms sport a chic industrial vibe and showcase the vibrancy of life in Kuala Lumpur through vintage photographs lining the walls.
The hotel is currently offering a promotional rate of RM 280 (S$97) for its deluxe room, which comes inclusive of breakfast.
