The Coolest New Restaurants To Check Out In The Month Of August
#1: Folklore

Taking cues from Singapore’s heritage, this new restaurant serves up authentic local (from Malay to Chinese and even Peranakan) cuisine headed by Chef Damian D’Silva. The must-try dishes: Singgang ($20), a long-lost Eurasian dish made of wolf herring (a type of ray-finned fish) which has been de-boned and cooked in a non-spicy paste and Hati Babi Bungkus ($18), a Peranakan dish which consists of grilled marinated minced pork and liver wrapped in caul fat (used for wrapping meats).

700 Beach Road, tel: 6679 2900

#2: Como Cuisine

Brand new to Como Dempsey’s lineup of restaurants and bars is Como Cuisine. The latest addition features a stunning menu which comprises of best-selling dishes from Como hotels across Australia, Asia, Europe and America. There are also new dishes inspired by the traditional cuisines of the Indian subcontinent.

18A Dempsey Road, tel: 1800 304 668

#3: Chikin

Housed within a preserved shophouse along the Bukit Pasoh enclave, this newest F&B addition offers a selection of Japanese skewers and plates, as well as a string of creative cocktails consisting of fruity tipples and innovative concoctions. P/S: the kitschy interior features pop-art printed walls and neon lights hanging from the ceiling – what’s not to love?

6 Bukit Pasoh Road, tel: 6910 2742

#4: La Brasserie

Back with an entirely revamped interior (there’s a new light colour scheme, redesigned furnishings and drapery) and menu, La Brasserie will definitely be your restaurant of choice. The updated menu focuses on French cuisine with hints of Mediterranean flavours and uses fresh herbs to pepper dishes with flavour. Recommended items include Sauteed Prawns and Chorizo ($21++), and Aubergine Caviar Tartine ($19++). What else we love: the new Fullerton Boutique located at the restaurant entrance, which offers signature patisseries and whole cakes including plain cheesecakes with house-made compotes (a sugar syrup with pieces of fruits) of mango, strawberry and lemon curd.

80 Collyer Quay, tel: 6597 5288

#5: Provisions

Dubbed as Singapore’s first skewers and claypot rice cocktail bar, this is definitely a refreshing addition to the slew of restaurants located in the upscale area of Dempsey. The menu features a variety of meat skewers, claypot rice (which are all, of course, great for communal dining) and creative tipples (they specialise in Asian-inspired cocktails). Some dishes to try include Oyster Omelette Rice ($18) and Beef Tongue Skewer ($9).

 7 Dempsey Road, tel: 6250 7090

Like this? Check out the cafes that make for the most Inhsta-worthy background to show off this season’s accessories, 4 restaurants where you can get a taste of grown-up mod-sin cuisine and why skewers are hot in the food scene.
