Non-profit visual arts organisation DECK is back with its signature Undescribed initiative, which supports works by fresh graduates based in Singapore who have recently graduated from local and overseas art institutions. The exhibition presents works that challenge and rethink current image-making practices, suggesting new ways to approach photography and the moving image within the field of art today. Now in its eighth edition, this year sees four emerging artists Andrea Danker (her work pictured here), Harshita Agarwal, Joshua Kon, and Lisa Peh presenting new works under this platform after completing a three-month mentorship with visual artist Robert Zhao Renhui and curator John Tung.
The exhibition is held at the near 50-year-old Peace Centre, which has been the main stage for DECK’s exhibitions over the past year. Like the more high-profile Golden Mile Complex over on Beach Road, Peace Centre is another old mall that has recently been sold in an en-bloc sale, and in this exhibition, the works of the young artists respond to the immediate environment of change at Peace Centre. The artworks are available for sale and a portion of proceeds go to the #BUILDECK fundraising campaign for Singapore’s first permanent building dedicated to photography arts.

It’s the final instalment of Walk Walk Don’t Run! For the uninitiated, this is an island-wide open studio walk organised by independent art space Grey Projects; artists, designers and artisans all over Singapore are opening their private spaces, especially for this programme, which will happen over four Saturdays in March, with each weekend focusing on a specific area. This feel-good programme was designed to foster spontaneity, informality, and open conversations with artists (hence the name Walk Walk Don’t Run, in which visitors are encouraged to take in things at a pace they’re most comfortable with).
This final leg of the programme focuses on studios and spaces in the West side of Singapore – names include Jalan Bahar Clay Studios (pictured), Field Studies, an independent art space and the studios of various artists and curators such as Danny Chong, Yen Phang, Deanna Ng and more.
For the individual addresses of each space, head here.
