It doesn’t matter whether you’re someone who enjoys the plush, luxurious furnishings of a heritage hotel while you’re overseas, or whether you simply prefer going a little further off the beaten track for a little retreat, nobody can resist a hotel with amazing rooftop views of the city. #1: Witt Istanbul Hotel in Istanbul, Turkey

Witt Istanbul Hotel sits in the streets of Cihangir. Being the home to a thriving arts scene and a selection of cafes, Cihangir is dubbed to be one of the trendier streets in Istabul. The hotel is also within walking distance of famous spots like the Taksim Square, Istiklal Caddesi, and Istanbul Modern.

On the roof of the hotel sits the Permaculture Garden, a prime example of sustainable urban agriculture. It’s taken care of not just by the landscape architects, but also by hotel staff, and sometimes hotel guests. The garden itself is completed with a sitting area where guests can kick back, relax, and take in the picturesque view of the Bosphorus and the city skyline. #2: Athenswas in Athens, Greece

Located in the heart of Athens, Athenswas is a mere walk away from some of the best touristy hot spots in town, namely the Acropolis, the Odeon of Herodes Theatre, and more. The hotel features sleek, modernistic architecture as well, with classy monochrome tiles lining the lobby, paired with luxe leather furnishings.

Every room in Athenswas comes with a veranda for all guests to enjoy the breathtaking view of Athens. The residential apartments in Athens often come with such verandas, so allowing guests to enjoy having their own ties in with the hotel’s concept of having a taste of the true Athenian lifestyle. #3: Hotel Lamée in Vienna, Austria

Hotel Lamée sits in the centre of Vienna, just a short distance away from the charming Saint Stephen’s Cathedral. The Hoher Markt market square and the Lugeck restaurant. The rooms are designed to take you back in time to 1930’s Viennese style with accents of old Hollywood glamour (think plush velveteen sofas, cream curtains and lacquered wooden headboards.

StandArt Hotel is located in Moscow’s Pushkin Square, a bustling area complete with a myriad of cafes and restaurants. The square also sometimes hosts events, such as food festivals and the like. Doused in touches of sophisticated tones hues as green, orange and grey, the hotel oozes it’s own unique modernistic charm. All hotel rooms and suites also feature Lanvin amenities and Etro bed linen, bath robes and slippers.

The hotel’s restaurant, Tres, is located on level nine, and looks out to the scenic views of Pushkin Square, which is especially breathtaking come sunset. From RUB12,500 (S$257)/night. 

#5: Puro Oasis Urbano in Palma de Mallorca, Spain

Seated in the old town of Palma de Mallorca, an island in Spain, and is strategically located among art galleries, restaurants and bars. Some of Palma de Mallorca’s sightseeing hotspots are also just a stone’s throw away from the hotel, with the Palma Cathedral and the Promenade, which is great for a simple relaxing stroll. Puro Hotel Palma is designed to look simple, yet urban, with white and cream as the main colour palettet, accented with more bohemian touches.

The best part about the hotel would probably have to be the rooftop, which overlooks the quaint, old-world charm that is Palma de Mallorca. Open to all guests, the rooftop space is just where you’d want to wind down after a long day of sight-seeing. Think Balinese canopied daybeds, soothing music, and a plunge pool. #6: Klaus K in Helsinki, Finland

Klaus K Hotel’s interior design is inspired by Finland’s national epic, Kalevala, with its rooms and interiors embodying the four main emotional themes – mystical, passion, desire and envy, thus resulting in an eclectic mix of colours. Some rooms feature a silvery dome as a bed, while others are simpler with white sheets, complemented with pops of blues and neutrals. There are even rooms decorated with fun hand-painted murals.

#6: Klaus K in Helsinki, Finland

Klaus K is also just a mere walk away from touristy destinations like the Ateneum, the museum of Finnish and international art. The hotel’s sky loft, on the other hand, is open all year round, and is even heated on cold winter days, making it ideal for holding private events. #7: Ovolo Southside in Hong Kong, China

Located in Wong Chuk Hang, the hipper south side of Hong Kong, Ovolo was a originally a warehouse remade into a design hotel. Bare, industrial elements like raw concrete walls, exposed piping and track lighting is the running theme throughout the hotel, to reference the location’s past. Art installation are also included all around the hotel interiors, and the building itself is decorated with graffiti.

#7: Ovolo Southside in Hong Kong, China

Because of its strategic location, Ovolo Southside’s terrace enjoys the majestic view of the Aberdeen promenade, Deep Water Bay, and Ocean Park surrounding the hotel. The terrace, as well as the rooftop bar can also be converted into an intimate events space. From $217/night.
