The long weekend is upon us and if you’re looking to get out and about, why not go on an art walk? Singapore Art Museum will open two new art trails set in the neighbourhoods of Tanjong Pagar and the iconic Rail Corridor, which promises to re-invigorate familiar sights. More details below.
Vintage purveyor Aeae Furniture is putting on a new initiative called After School Specials, a series of co-curricular activities held within a carved-out space in their beautiful showroom. The first in this series is helmed by botanical artist Bryan Kang of the landscape design studio Pudica, who will be leading newcomers to understand the intricacies of selecting and styling for a terrarium and how each element responds to each other with intention. You’ll get to learn the basics of miniature ecosystems, maintenance and take home a terrarium of your own making. Materials will be provided, as well as bakes and beverages by the studio’s partners.

April 29 & April 30, 10am-1pm, at Aeae Furniture, #07-01 Ho Seng Lee Flatted Warehouse, 10C Jalan Ampas
The Singapore Art Museum (SAM) has been vocal about taking art out of its traditional confines and into more easily accessible spaces. To do so, they’re launching two new public art trails, which will activate nine different locations around the historic Tanjong Pagar neighbourhood and the iconic Rail Corridor to bring art encounters into everyday spaces.
The two trails feature newly commissioned artworks by nine Singapore and Singapore-based artists – Genevieve Chua, Divaagar, Aki Hassan, Isabella Teng, Sookoon Ang, Grace Tan (pictured), Space Objekt, Zen Teh, Tan Pin Pin and Hilmi Johandi. Both trails are part of SAM’s long-term initiative, The Everyday Museum, which launched last July to weave art more naturally into Singapore’s urban landscape and to inspire interest and curiosity in art.

The trails open from April 29, 2023 to March 9, 2025 at various locations
New-ish Japanese-inspired cafe and bar Naga House has in recent months started to put on parties of their own (Naga Sounds) and the latest takes place at Tuff Club. They’ve invited Acid Sister, a Bangkok-based collaborative duo rooted in family ties and a love for underground electronic music, as the headline act.
Comprising of real-life sisters, Chucheewa and Takky, Acid Sister is no stranger to the scene; you may recognise them from helming many a deck at underground clubs and festivals in Thailand. As the name suggests, this sister act services acid house with a side of minimal, tech house; and the intention of uniting happy ravers across the dance floor. They’ll be supported by local up-and-comers such as Yetpet, Jenn Chunes, Leland and Kins.

The popular Hendrick’s Sunset Cinema is back. If you’re not familiar, this film festival promises to offer a one-0f-a-kind experience where you get to watch films on comfortable deck chairs by the sea (noise-cancelling headphones will be provided), with fancy cocktails (by Hendrick’s, obviously) and bites to go with the whole shebang.
It’s not just the balmy atmosphere – the festival offers a nicely varied slate of recent films too, including award-winning dramas like the Cate Blanchett-headlined Tar (watch it if you haven’t already), The Banshees of Inisherin, The Menu, The Fabelmans, The Woman King, as well as classic rom-coms like What’s Love Got to Do with It. Tickets for certain films are already sold out, so we’d act fast.
