This week, if you’re a fan of comic book art (all you Marvel movies fans, the magic started with comics), you have to check out Singapore Comic Con, which is finally returning after being missing in action for the past two years. More details below.
If you still haven’t gotten around to getting your Christmas gifts, get down to this festive market organised by one of our favourite party organisers, North East Social Club. The market features an extensive list of some of the best emerging labels and creatives in Singapore at the moment, including tattoo art collective Crevice, ceramic label Viride, record store Wildflower Waxed Co, jewellery label Visual Jargon, vintage fashion purveyor Shibui World and many more.
Dec 10, 10am-10pm, at Level 2 Cineleisure
Perhaps the world’s foremost experiential digital art collective, teamLab has just unveiled new works at both ArtScience Museum’s permanent exhibition, Future World: Where Art Meets Science, as well as the Digital Light Canvas work at the nearby The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
Since its opening in 2016, Future World has welcomed close to three million visitors through its doors. But even if you’ve already visited the exhibition, there is now a newly opened gallery within the museum titled Exploring New Frontiers that houses three interactive installations focusing on getting visitors to see the skies as a place of inspiration and discovery. One particular work to look out for is Aerial Climbing Through a Flock of Colored Birds (pictured), which invites the audience to climb an aerial structure – the artwork reacts to people’s movements, mimicking the effect of being a part of the avian flock.
From now till Dec 31, visitors can get tickets to both works at the museum and MBS under a special promotional bundle at $28.
On now till Dec 31, at ArtScience Museum and The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands
The cosplay (costume play) scene in Singapore is actually a really vibrant one, as FEMALE highlighted in our October 2020 issue, where we invited some of Singapore’s most interesting players for a fashion photoshoot (pictured). Now, if you want to get in on the action or simply marvel at the wonderful costumes, head down to Singapore Comic Con (SGCC), which is making its return after a two-year hiatus (thanks to the pandemic!).
More than 350 exhibitors are camped out at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre, where the festival will occupy both floors and more than 200,000 sq ft of space. Highlights include Eisner Award-winning writer James Tynion IV (Batman fans – he’s your guy), as well as writer-artist Lee Bermejo, the co-creator of the Lex Luthor: Man Of Steel series and the Joker graphic novels.
Women leading the way at the convention include artist Sozomaika, who’s worked on the Catwoman series and beloved for her film noir-inspired aesthetic, as well as award-winning Singapore-based artist Quinatasya, who is known for her realistic and impressionistic renderings of neuroanatomical structures, human figures and living species in various mediums.

Dec 10 to Dec 11, 10am-8pm, at Sands Expo & Convention Centre
