This week, film buffs are in for a treat; over at ArtScience Museum, a retrospective tracing Sofia Coppola’s oeuvre is underway, while The Projector’s screening a 4K-restored version of Wong Kar Wai’s iconic In The Mood For Love. More details below.
Following the successful film retrospective dedicated to legendary Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto last Dec, ArtScience Museum is kicking off a new season, this time focusing on the dreamy, intimate worlds of Sofia Coppola. The filmmaker is known for infusing her works with a tender, empathetic touch, exploring notions of loneliness through an unapologetic female gaze that remains especially relevant today. If you’re a Coppola fan, you’re in for a treat as almost all of her works will be screened in this retrospective, save for On The Rocks (2020). Trace her career through girlhood classics like The Virgin Suicides (1999), on to the quirkily pensive, Oscar-winning Lost in Translation (2003) or the rich extravagance of Marie Antoinette (2006). Get your tickets here.
Feb 11 to Mar 26 at Level 4 ArtScience Museum, 6 Bayfront Avenue

Got no paramours this Valentine’s Day? No matter, The Projector’s got you covered with a special screening of In The Mood For Love by the Internet’s favourite auteur. The slow-simmering romantic drama follows a pair of platonic neighbours who make a discovery about their respective spouses, birthing an intimate bond between the two. First released in 2000, the film went on to become one of the most critically acclaimed and influential contemporary works in cinema and pop culture (it’s hard to escape Wong Kar Wai’s influence, especially on social media) at large. The Projector is now putting on three screenings of the 4K-restored version of the original film –the restoration of which was supervised and approved by the director himself. Don’t miss out.
Feb 10, Feb 14 and Feb 17, 8.30pm at Projector X: Picturehouse, 2 Handy Rd, #05-01 The Cathay
