State of Motion is the Asian Film Archive‘s signature yearly film and art event, and they’ve been known to cook up really interesting programs – last year saw them exploring the history of horror in Asian films. This year sees a similarly extensive programme that reflects on the relations between ideas of time, bodies of memory and the moving image. Expect film screenings, exhibitions, site-specific installations to guided tours where you might expect to learn how old films are preserved for posterity. All of this takes place across two spaces – the Asian Film Archive’s new building over at Fort Canning, and a new warehouse over at Depot Lane. Details here.

If you’re the type that digs underground parties (and there are more and more of those in Singapore in recent years – yay.), here’s a new one. Despite its name, the location (secret for now) is actually a warehouse somewhere in the east. Dang – we were hoping it would really be held at a void deck but of course there’s always the problem of grappling with noise control. P.S. It’s the final weekend to catch this wonderful exhibition by independent art space Coda Culture at its brand new location over at Aliwal Street. Where else can you catch so many of today’s best and most promising local artists all in one space? There are more than 50 artists taking part, including Priyageetha Dia, Divaagar, Norah Lea, Chand Chandramohan and many many more; it’s one of the best shows that capture where Singapore’s independent art scene is at the moment. Coda Culture, 67 Aliwal Street

The ArtScience Museum’s newest blockbuster exhibition is quite a curious approach to a much talked-about topic – the approaching climate emergency. The exhibition has tapped on many local and international artists, architects, filmmakers, writers and theatre companies to imagine how Singapore might look like two hundred years from now, unfolding over five segments which take visitors on a journey from 2019 to 2219. Illustrious Singapore names taking part in the exhibition include artists Yanyun Chen, Priyageetha Dia, Robert Zhao and many more. Details here.

Buzzy art-meets-food space Telok Ayer Arts Club is starting a new series of feed-good parties every last Friday of month and the first round is helmed by a trio of stalwarts – multi-hyphenate queen Ginette Chittick, dapper DJ Mr Has and OG spin master Aldrin.
