This week, don’t miss out on multi-label boutique Spades‘ first archive event, where you can snag rare vintage pieces from names such as Comme des Garcons, Issey Miyake, Undercover and more. With You Here Between: Defamiliarizations, a new exhibition showcasing tender works by four up-and-coming artists opens at independent visual art space Objectifs, exploring the intimacy in various topics such as queer identity, ecology and yearning for home. Lastly, STPI Gallery is putting on a really interesting show called On Time that will challenge the usually static experience of catching an exhibition.
Objectifs’ latest exhibition, With You Here Between: Defamiliarizations, is one to catch.
It features works by rising artists Masuri Mazlan, Dylan Chan, Fitri Ya’akob and Vimal Kumar (whose work is pictured here), who use photography to explore various timely themes such as queer identity, spirituality, ecology and yearnings for home and family. Collectively, the show is meant to celebrate those who live – and thrive – in the margins.
Not only that, the show itself is curated by young, emerging names in the art scene – Elaine Thanya Marie Teo and Tekad Kolektif (a new non-profit art initiative that facilitates artistic collaboration between young art talents and independent artists). The programming also includes more interactive activities such as curator’s tours and workshops on cyanotype printing, floral arrangement and yantra cartography systems that all relate to the exhibition.

Hunting for second hand and vintage pieces has clearly become a thing in recent years, and one of the best platforms you can participate in person is an event organised by one of the newest players in the local retail scene – Spades.
The store is holding its first archive event, where rare gems from the likes of Comme des Garcons, Undercover, Helmut Lang, Rick Owens, Issey Miyake and more will be on sale. If you’re a fan of any of these names, this retail haunt is the place to be this weekend.
September 24 to September 26, 1pm to 9pm, 48 MacTaggart Road, #02-04
Simply titled On Time, STPI Gallery’s latest exhibition says it all in the name.
New multimedia works by four veteran Singapore artists – Adeline Kueh, Jason Lim, Ian Woo and Zul Mahmod – will be on display but don’t expect the usual static experience of catching an exhibition. On Time inspects the role of time in the artists’ production period during their STPI residency (each did a residency at the space this year), as well as the experience of time during and of an exhibition.
What does that mean? For one, the layout of the month-long exhibition will be altered once a week for the duration show, thus presenting a total of four distinct iterations. The show asks the audience to consider the time of production on the artist’s side, but also the audience’s – how much time are we spending with each work and how might our perception of it change over time?
