This week, the Lasalle Show kicks off – a vital stop for anyone who wishes to check out the next generation of emerging talents from various disciplines at Lasalle College of The Arts. More details below.
It’s the annual showcase of everything Lasalle College of The Arts has to offer through its many schools and disciplines spanning fashion, film, fine arts, graphic design, music, dance and theatre.
Hundreds of graduating students at various levels (from diploma to masters) will be putting their works on display at the institution which can be considered one of the best places in Singapore to spot the next generation of artists and creatives.
Pictured here: the poster for Fragmentary Blues of Dances Between Men, a fashion image and film project which tells a narrative of longing lovers told in nine fragmented scenarios, conceptualised by Fashion Media & Industries student Kevin Tew.
On now till June 1. Check out the works in person at Lasalle College of The Arts, 1 McNally Street, or online at The Lasalle Show
Much has been bandied about regarding the value of print in today’s digital-first world – the focus of the latest exhibition at the National Design Centre, titled The State of Print.
Designed and produced by award-winning creative agency Fable, the show is an ode to the tactility and comfort of print products (there’s nothing like holding a book, right?) but it posits print as a medium that has simply evolved from pulp to pixels; co-existing in a state of pages that one can both flip through physically or scroll on digital screens.
Visitors can also look forward to an interactive experience with the exhibition organised in a series of stations. For example, you can write a postcard to be sent to a senior in a nursing home to brighten his or her day. Local and international partners such as D&AD, Kin Yiap Press and RJ Paper are showcasing winning works, traditional printing methods and presenting Risograph printing and virtual paper making workshops.
On now till July 31 at National Design Centre, 111 Middle Road
Nightlife and party queen Bobby Luo (pictured here in our April 2022 issue) is back in action, this time with his Baby Boy series which is billed as a queer R&B/hip-hop home for party-goers of every shape, colour, gender and sexuality. The last one was staged last Halloween, so it’s been quite some time since people got to let loose.
Drag queens Sapphire Blast and Luna Thicc will be performing, while DJs Captain Steve and Lokies Khan will be helming the decks (FYI, a supervised negative ART test result 24 hours prior to entry matching your name is required and will be checked at the door before entry).
May 20, 10pm till late, $15 cover at Hard Rock Cafe, 20 Cuscaden Road
