Last October, we had a sneak peek of the direction the deliciously unorthodox botanical design studio This Humid House‘s (THH) new Parisian outpost would take, when THH’s co-creative director and the lead for its French office Francoise Ozawa took us through her daily routine and the things that inspire her work.
Fast forward to 2022, and the newly opened Parisian outpost is getting ready to launch its second exhibition, titled Blended Tongue: Singapore and Paris at the Table.
The show, set in the Marais district of the French capital, sees various artists and artisans from both cities coming together to present a wide array of vessels. These will be complemented with botanical installations that together celebrate the age-long relationship between material culture and the culture of plants and flowers.
French artist Vincent Olinet’s delightfully decadent sculpture will be one of many artworks participating in this cross-culture show.
French and France-based artists participating in this show include Han Chiao, Claire Cosnefroy, Clement Garcia Le Gouez, Cindy Liao Rasamoelina, Vincent Olinet, Juliette Teste and Catherine Willis.
On the homefront, FEMALE readers will be familiar with some of the Singapore artists participating, which includes Shayne Phua, Sookoon Ang, Kara Inez, ATinyMaker (Ng Si Ying), Good Good Ceramics, Jenevieve Studio and Thow Kang Pottery.
While florals may typically be the star, the exhibition Blended Tongue: Singapore and Paris at the Table aims to celebrate the relationship between flowers and the vessels that house them.
Just as THH has infused the Singapore florist scene with a new, more inquisitive energy with its sociological approach to working with “living media” (that is, plant-based material that is living or was once living), they’re looking to bring that same energy across to Paris, and contextualise it within a contemporary European setting.
“This show was put together with much sincerity and a genuine hopefulness to a future of new ideas and new synergies brought about by authentic collaboration by artists from Singapore and France,” says Ozawa.
If you’re based in the city, check out the show at Heureux Les Curieux, 23 rue du Pont-aux-Choux from Feb 24 to Feb 26
