Utilitarian detailing here, clever construction there — the designs from Ametsubi are sophisticated yet wearable enough for the everyday. A womenswear brand that’s inspired by the differences of gender and cultures, the brand is founded by Japanese-Singaporean duo Keita Ebihara and Elizabeth Soon. The two first met in class while pursuing a masters degree in Milan and upon graduation, they founded Ametsubi that’s based out of Japan. And despite being a fledgling label, the duo have already taken home the Emerging Fashion Designer of the Year accolade at 2017’s Singapore Fashion Awards.
With two collections under their belt and an upcoming Spring/Summer ’19 collection underway, the key elements of Ametsubi are unique cuts, original fabrications developed in Japan, and layering materials of different textures — with the idea of constant reinvention and evolution a part of the brand’s philosophy. The beauty in its minimalist silhouettes with fluid draping, oversized proportions and asymmetrical hemlines are the endless permutations the wearer can come up with. Think: a chic uniform that’s capsule wardrobe material and ideal for the modern woman.
Ametsubi is stocked at Manifesto, #02-19 Capitol Piazza Mall.
