Shop 12 Homegrown Brands At The Boutiques Fair Singapore

What’s new about this month’s edition of the Boutiques Fair, taking place from November 4-5: It’s teamed up with Singapore Fashion Week (SGFW) to present a curated selection of 12 Singapore brands.

by ISABEL ONG  /   November 3, 2016

Boutiques Fair Singapore returns this Friday and Saturday with its largest edition yet. Over 150 vendors will set up shop at the F1 Pit Building for the two-day event, retailing everything from fashion to furniture.

What’s new about this month’s edition: It’s teamed up with Singapore Fashion Week (SGFW) to present a curated selection of 12 Singapore brands that participated in or are recommended by the fashion week organisers. Available at the Boutiques Fair for the first time, the brands range from established names like Carrie K to up-and-coming womenswear labels like Engell Peh. We break them down in our gallery below:

The one-year-old brand, which melds Asian aesthetics with Western edge, made its SGFW debut this year with an anime-themed collection. Its most popular offering, their Chinoiserie-inspired bomber jackets, have been worn by international celebs like Mick Jagger and Natalie Imbruglia.

#3: Nida Shay

Established by Abu Dhabi-born, Singapore-based designer Nida Shay, her namesake label specialises in whimsical, feminine separates with elaborate hand-sewn embellishments and embroidery.

#4: threadbare & squirrel

The multi-label collective is a strong advocate of local names, stocking directional brands like Max Tan to artisanal jewellery brands like Amado Gudek (you’ll dig its beautifully crafted sustainable baubles).

#5: Matter

The socially conscious label aims to preserve textile artisanship amidst a continued push for mass-produced “fast fashion”. While their dhoti-style pants have been their mainstay, the brand has recently branched out to jumpsuits and rompers.

#6: House Of Sheens

The four-year-old handbag label’s exquisitely crafted minaudieres are handmade by artisans in South-east Asia using luxe materials like python and crocodile skin. Also available are totes, sandals and gold-plated cuffs adorned with jewel-encrusted spiders.

#7: Engell Peh

The one-year-old womenswear label offers timeless, elegant separates designed locally and made across Asia. Its silk-satin tube tops, slip dresses and brocade-print blazers make great workwear staples.

#8: One.61

If you’re looking for statement clutches to accompany you for an evening out, check out the brand’s sleek, sculptural designs. Inspired by the architecture and interiors of modern buildings across Asia, One.61’s influences are widespread, taking reference from the Esplanade’s reflective pyramid structure to The Gateway twin towers at Beach Road.

#9: Simone Irani

The Mumbai-born, Singapore-based designer focuses on resort wear rendered in bright hues and eye-catching prints. Her signature pieces: Billowy, loose-fitting kaftans; baggy sari pants; and luxurious silk maxi dresses.

#10: Ying The Label

The womenswear brand debuted for Spring/Summer 2016, and its collection mainly comprises simple, structured dresses, pants and tops bearing prints that were hand-painted by founder Li Ying.

#11: Klarra

Founded by local influencer Beatrice Tan three years ago, the label will be your go-to for contemporary classics like off-shoulder tops with bell sleeves, high-waisted wide-leg pants and form-fitting pencil skirts.

#12: Carrie K

The seven-year-old jewellery brand is a favourite amongst local fashion insiders for its playful yet sophisticated designs. Its latest offering is a collaboration with Disney flick Alice In Wonderland, and incorporates charms in the shape of watch gears as a visual representation of Time.

Boutiques at the Pit Building runs from 9am-8pm on Nov 4 and 10am-8pm on Nov 5 at F1 Pit Building (#02-01 to 03).
