Since Fashion Week started earlier this month, we’ve been seeing designers toying with various ideas and propositions as to how dressing up in a post-pandemic world should be like. And no other piece of garment has come up quite the winner like the humble bra.
Be it a bikini top, a bandeau, or even one inspired by nursing bras (we’re looking at you Simone Rocha), this erstwhile undergarment seems to have evolved into a wardrobe staple that represents comfort and support today.
In fact, a report by American research company NPD Group earlier this year reported sales of sports bra has risen by 32 per cent since the pandemic started. Meanwhile, bralettes and wireless bras went up by five per cent.

Brands – both experimental and more conservative ones – certainly got the memo for Spring/Summer 2022. Charlotte Knowles, Blumarine and Nensi Dojaka are among the purveyors of the skin-baring trend, while labels like Tod’s and Fendi flirted with this liberating trend by pairing bras under jackets.
