9 New Brands To Shop On Net-A-Porter Now
#1: Sarah & Sebastian

One of Net-A-Porter’s new demi-fine jewellery brands (they bridge the gap between fashion and fine jewellery), the five-year-old Australian brand adopts a modernist, avant-garde approach to their pieces. A mono earring is fashioned after American sculptor Alexander Calder’s work, while rings are dainty and come embellished with ethically-sourced stones such as sapphires. Every item is handmade and made of reclaimed gold and silver. From US$220 (S$319)

#2: A.W.A.K.E.

The four-year-old label – its acronym stands for “All Wonderful Adventures Kindle Enthusiasm” – references Japanese culture in subtle ways. Pieces generally fall on the “oversized” end of the spectrum, like a red-and-white striped shirt with cuffs that fall over the hands and a checkered top with exaggerated shoulders and an asymmetric peplum hem. Another reason why you can expect their pieces to be on-trend: It’s founded by an industry insider, aka former Harper’s Bazaar Russia fashion director Natalia Alaverdian. From US$543 (S$787)

#3: Gul Hurgel

The Instanbul-based womenswear brand is also led by industry insiders (stylist Kate Foley and fashion editor Pandora Sykes) and dresses, tops and skirts are infused with a distinctly Mediterranean vibe. Off-shoulder dresses come with ruffles made of lace, and striped midi skirts come trimmed with lace – pieces that will never look out of place at the beach or in our year-round summer. From US$520 (S$754)

#4: Madeworn

The band tee was one of the most ubiquitous items worn by the streetstyle set this year. American label Madeworn’s music-themed designs – from Bowie to The Rolling Stones and the Ramones – are made using vintage sewing machines and have that worn-to-death look – something that will likely happen when you own one of these. US$160 (S$232) each

#5: Sandy Liang

If you like Self-Portrait’s guipure lace dresses and Jacquemus’ intellectually-riveting designs, Sandy Liang should be next on your must-buy list. The two-year-old American label’s feminine yet edgy separates bear the most intriguing combinations, whether it’s mixing pink lace with black-and-white gingham for a dress or combining stripes, gingham and ruffles for a shirt. It’s hardly surprising to know that the Parsons School of Design graduate has been named one to watch. From US$295 (S$428)

#6: Catbird NYC

The xx demi-fine jewellery brand has earned fans like celebrities Emma Watson and Michelle Williams for their minimalist designs, ranging from thin, delicate gold and silver rings to ear cuffs and necklaces. If you’re into stacking your bling, you’ll covet their pieces. From US$35 (S$51)

#7: Alanui

The Italian knitwear label’s specialty? Cardigans bearing Native American prints in the most riotous colours. Fun fact: Each item is handcrafted from 980 grams of Cariaggi cashmere (the brand manufactures some of the finest yarns in the world) and takes a whopping 11 hours to make. US$3,290 (S$4,771) each

#8: Freda Banana

The four-year-old New York eyewear label makes the perfect summer accessory: Statement shades with the most eclectic, quirky embellishments like faux pearls and crystals, all applied by hand. Our only thought: Why didn’t we hear about this brand sooner? US$200 (S$290) each

#9: Oscar Tiye

It’s Gigi Hadid and Giovanna Battaglia-approved, and its designs often have interesting accents, like ankle straps with Minnie Mouse-shaped ears on their backs, and others that come with gilded “angel wings”. Fans of footwear labels like Sophia Webster and Charlotte Olympia: You know what to buy next. From US$580 (S$841)
