Hedi Slimane has a knack for immaculately designed retail spaces – a quick look at the Celine flagship on New York’s Madison Avenue will show you just that. For the re-opening of the brand’s flagship store at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands on April 1, the French fashion designer takes cues from the Brutalist architecture that its New York counterpart is now known for. Think Basaltina floors, combinations of luxurious grand antique marble, sleek stainless steel and hints of reclaimed oak – every bit reminiscent of Slimane’s effortlessly cool finesse.
The 316-sqm duplex store – the largest in the region – boasts Slimane’s highly-anticipated menswear and haute parfumerie collections which make their debuts here. Those who have been looking to finally get their hands on one of the nine gender-neutral eau de parfum offerings, which launched in Oct last year at the Paris store, can finally get to do so for $290 per 100ml. These include the bergamot, neroli and vetiver-heavy Parade to the sweet, powdery blossom-laden Dans Paris. If you’re looking to pepper that vanity with even more Celine goodies, choose from the brand’s chic lifestyle range, Maison Celine. Options include a leather lighter case, a sterling silver matchbox and a calfskin paperweight.
And for those in the market for new rags: perhaps now’s the time to try Slimane’s lithe gender-bending menswear designs – complete with quotes from a collaboration with American painter and illustrator David Kramer who is famous for his slogan-laden works – on for size. The Spring/Summer 2020 collection sees a range of logo T-shirts, raffia basket bags and oversized boater hats. A summer set up for the coolest of cool? We think so.
