Hedi Slimane cements his status as a purveyor of the school of indie rock chic with Celine’s Summer 2023 collection. Titled Indie Summer, the collection was presented in the French coastal town of Saint Tropez and accompanied by the soundtrack ‘Music When The Lights Go Out’ by quintessential 2000’s rock band The Libertines.
In keeping with the theme of revival, Slimane introduced a new bag style during the October show: the Conti bag, described as a reimagination of the Cabas bag that was also designed by his predecessor Phoebe Philo. Other noteworthy pieces from the collection include the chunky boots with buckles, wide-frame sunglasses and jewellery pieces perfect for stacking.
Perhaps most notable part of the collection is the reappearance of Slimane’s signature skin-tight skinny jeans (born from his time at Dior Homme), seen on everyone from rockers to rappers in the early aughts. The show saw models in low-rise denim and leather variations that were paired with structured blazers, leather biker jackets and loose button-ups to really sell that indie aesthetic like it was 2009. Mini skirts and crochet bikini tops were styled under massive fur coats or slim fit jackets for the ultimate Y2K-rocker look.
Ahead, some of the buys to get from Celine’s Summer 2023 collection that will be available in stores in early April.
