The pandemic has changed the way this Forbes-lister lives.

by VALERIE WONG   /   June 22, 2020

Like many OG fashion influencers, Yuyu Zhangzou first made her mark through her blog, Yuyu Fashion Book, where she posts daily outfit inspirations and shopping guides. The 2019 member of Forbes 30 under 30 list now boasts a 3.2-million strong following on Chinese social media platform Weibo, and is also a familiar face in the front row at Fashion Week.

Most recently, the Chinese influencer collaborated with APM Monaco for its Collection Tropicana and Collection Ete – two summer-inspired lines of playful and colourful designs. She shared the pieces with the palm trees, animals, the star and the sun are among her favourite designs because “they are very versatile pieces, so I can style them with all kinds of outfits, from casual to streetwear or an effortlessly chic look.” Here, we get the 31-year-old to share what’s really in her fashion books.

On how the pandemic has changed the way she lives

“I think it has changed in a good way. I’ve been spending more time in Shanghai, and even got myself a puppy. I’ve also been doing a lot of thinking, so it’s all been a positive change, I must say. I’ve adopted a more healthy lifestyle too. I think all of us have a duty to take care of our health, and everyone should pay more attention to it.”

On how she describes her personal style

“Mix and match, comfortable, cool, new sexy, and high street.”

On what she’d wear for an online meeting

“I usually dress pretty casual when I have an online meeting.”

On her go-to pieces for work

“Since I’m in the fashion industry, the most important thing for me is to be casual and comfortable, hence I’ll pick pieces that are easy to style. If I’m attending a formal meeting, I’ll go for something more chic and elegant.”

On her trick to looking sharp and professional

“I think a pantsuit or nice blouse works best for any professional occasion. Pair them with heels – I think it makes one look sharp.”

On her favourite Chinese fashion brands

“I like Chenpeng and Angel Chen (above) – they’re pretty good. Shushu/Tong is another local fashion brand I like, even though they are not my usual style.”

On what she’s buying online now

“For online shopping, my go-tos are Farfetch, Luisa via Roma and Net-a-Porter. My most recent purchases are dresses and T-shirts, since summer is just around the corner. I’ve also gotten some hoodies.”

On the purchases she regretted buying

“I don’t think I have any purchase that I regret. I do buy certain stuff for silly reasons, but I have no regrets. Most of my shopping depends on my mood. When I shop, I don’t like to try on the clothes, and sometimes they end up not fitting me well, but even then, I don’t really regret buying them.”

On her style inspirations

“I don’t look up to anyone in particular. I am inspired by many things, such as the people around me, magazines, television etc.”

On her wishlist

“For now, a Celine shoulder bag.”
