The last time we were so excited about a Christophe Lemaire collection with Uniqlo, was, well, a Christophe Lemaire collection for Uniqlo. That was eight months ago.
In that period, the French master of pared-down, relaxed and well-constructed wardrobe staples, has taken on the reins as the creative head of the Uniqlo Paris R&D Center team. His task: Do what he does best with wardrobe basics, but for the masses.
Next month, Lemaire will debut his 89-piece Uniqlo U line at Singapore’s Orchard Central flagship and online. The first drop will happen on October 7, followed by a second on November 25. And judging from our sneak preview of the collection ($19.90 to $249.90), the looks are textbook Lemaire. Among the standouts are field jackets and jumpers given that no-nonsense utility factor.
But the quality that sets Lemaire’s designs apart from basic staples is present here: Fine stitching details and plush wool are heavily used throughout. Over the next 39 slides, we select our top picks for women (items #1 through #25) and for him (from #26) from the first drop.
