On the unlikely off-chance that you don’t know Comme des Garcon’s Play: it’s a super accessible and casual line by the Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo. It consists of T-shirts, button-down shirts, hoodies, sweaters and sneakers that add a playful touch of high fashion association to classic styles.
The idea behind this Play Together capsule, according to Kawakubo, came out of a desire to create a “kind of market where various creators from various fields gather together” in “an ongoing atmosphere of beautiful chaos”. That meant a mixing up of all three brands’ iconic logos – Nike with its swoosh, Converse with its chevron and star, and Play with its heart.
It’s play time.
This limited-edition nine-piece collection is also the first time Play Comme des Garcons has invited partners to collaborate on ready-to-wear. To wit, Converse and Nike each have a white T-shirt, grey hoodie, and a blue and white striped button-down shirt.
Furthering the spirit of collaboration, the campaign was lensed by the Paris-based photographer Jean Jacques Ndjoli. Ndjoli photographed his friends, in the spirit of the Play Comme des Garcons spirit of every day ease, wearing these designs at work and play.
Play Together by Play Comme des Garcons will be available at the brand’s boutiques in Hilton Hotel, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, Takashimaya S.C. and Ion Orchard, Dover Street Market Singapore and online.
