Our Edit Of The Coolest Designer Bucket Bags To Get Now

by MICHELLE YEOH  /   February 5, 2018

The quintessential bucket bag is three things: functional, universal, and timeless. The style expands for all of our schlepping needs — one time, it hauled a laptop, a set of gym clothes, an arsenal of facial mists and lipsticks — and it still manages to pull off fun-sized. Ladies night-ready. Seriously, this 70s’-style swingy (and don’t forget sturdy) silhouette conveniently cinches at the top and retains its shape no matter how much we stuff into ‘em. Think: XXL bags, but with all the convenience of a petit receptacle.

The bucket bag has perched itself on a pedestal, looking down on all other ‘trendy’ bags that come and go as seasons pass. In fact, it has become such a staple that designers can’t help but bring it back time and again, season after season. For Spring/Summer 2018, Marc Jacobs and Fendi did just that, creating new renditions of the bucket bag in neon colourways and novel dinky sizes. We’ve picked out some of the best spring-ready bucket bags to get your hands on. From macrame netted styles, woven straw-types to quirky prints and zesty colours; here are the cutest ones to score for Spring 2018.

Our Edit Of The Coolest Designer Bucket Bags To Get Now
#1: Moreau bucket bag, $365.69, Staud
image

Staud’s key bag silhouette, the Moreau, is updated in a fresh, pristine white hue. Exclusive to Net-a-porter, this rendition of the popular bucket style encased in sand macramé netting is a great number for the weekend. Hey, we won’t stop you from bringing this into the office as well, the polished white leather peeking through gives it a professional finish that’ll go well with your workwear.

#2: Denim bucket bag, price unavailable, Kate Spade New York
image

With a tasseled drawstring closure and a structured outer silhouette, this bucket bag is plenty of fun. You can already tell by its fabrication: denim. And don’t get us started on those adorable tropical trees… This receptacle practically screams ‘spring-perfection’.

#3: Bucket bag, price unavailable, Marc Jacobs
image

Following up on Marc Jacobs’ love for explosive neon colours, this bucket bag makes sure it utilises as many colours as possible in its construction. Complementing the outlandish shades of bright pink and orange, the body and base of this number is kept simple in a shade of khaki and black, striking the right amount of balance and rendering it as an everyday bag.

#4: Bucket bag, price unavailable, Fendi
image

Making its first appearance on Fendi’s Spring/Summer 2018 runway, this dinky bucket bag has contrasting red straps, a contemporary grid design and quirky loose fringing at the bottom accented by beads.

#5: Straw bucket bag, $453, Aranaz Nana
image

This isn’t your typical weekend basket bag (which we’ve talked about before here). This one has real character. Featuring tropical leaves embroidered with forest green-dyed straws and even a straw tassel keychain, this receptacle faces up to the ubiquitous straw bag we’re seeing everywhere nowadays.

#6: Vintage bucket bag, , $1,031, Louis Vuitton
image

Talk about fun-sized. This vintage Louis Vuitton bucket bag is still very much in its prime, considering the popularity of the micro-purse trend recently. Throw in a couple of lipsticks — or whatever you need for minor touch-ups — and you’re all set for a worry-free Friday night out.

#7: Bucket bag, $435, Zac Zac Posen
image

Here’s a bucket bag you can schelp to the office. Featuring an atypical foldover and rendered in a duo multi-colour scheme, this bag also has a statement hardware clasp that adds an edge to its look.

#8: Raffia bucket bag, $1,645, Prada
image

One of SS18’s most desirable new styles, the woven-raffia bucket bag, is seen here iterated in natural beige, with powder-blue smooth leather trimming and lined in beige canvas. The interchangeable striped textile and coordinated leather straps lends a cool graphic aesthetic to this bag. Pair with a fluid floral dress for maximum feminine effect.

#9: Raffia bucket bag, $1,720, Miu Miu
image

Miu Miu’s playful take on its designs is evidently captured in this red leather-trimmed raffia bucket bag. Finished with a contemporary tartan-inspired embroidery, this bucket-style features a gold-tone metal logo plaque. The oversized flower embellishment is also a great touch, offering an upbeat mood to everyday and occasion outfits.

#10: Bonsai 15 bucket bag, $444.04, Simon Miller
image

This cult favourite silhouette from Simon Miller is reimagined in smokey blue here to refresh your spring wardrobe. With two acrylic tortoiseshell handles and a tubular shape, this ‘Bonsai’ tote is one of those accessories that will go with everything.
