There are collabs and then there are these. For one, these brands have partnered with timeless favourites from Disney and Sanrio, and one that made waves on Nickelodeon: Mickey and Minnie Mouse, the uber cute Hello Kitty and SpongeBob Square Pants. Then, they have managed a perfect balance between their individual aesthetics and that of these iconic cartoon characters. And that makes these collections, well… collector- and awww-worthy in our book. A sneak peak into what to expect.
Onitsuka Tiger and Mr & Mrs Mouse
The Japanese brand decided to celebrate the Disney duo Mickey and Minnie Mouse’s 90th birthday with an exclusive range of sneakers. The result is a collection that incorporates signature nuances of each. So Onitsuka Tiger stripes meet the iconic cartoon power couple’s shapes and colours: black, white and some red. And the most logical Onitsuka Tiger model to do it with? Yes, you guessed right: The Mexico 66. Later in May, there’s going to be another edition of the collab, Mexico 66 – Grids, and it will be available in adult and children sizes. No reason you shouldn’t collect both, really.
Furla x Hello Kitty
Taking a Japanese icon on a romantic journey through Italy is how the brand describes this collaboration. In a case of West meets East, Furla’s The Metropolis crossbody bag comes printed with the face of the anthropomorphic icon. The pink and red bow of Hello Kitty holds its own against the vibrant floral background of the bag. The designs filter down to smaller accessories such as micro bags, key rings, credit card cases and more (we are not complaining about a cuteness overdose, either).
:Chocoolate x Spongebob
A perfect blend of mass with prestige is how Hong Kong pop fashion brand :Chocoolate markets itself – with fun an integral part of that mix. So who better than a hot favourite of Nickelodeon channel, SpongeBob SquarePants, to encapsulate that spirit. The limited edition collection has the brand’s signature colours – white, black and grey with vibrant splashes of yellow (yes, SpongeBob). Expect tees and flipflops, printed or embroidered with the geeky/happy face of the star of Bikini Bottom.
