Emma Watson‘s at it, as are Anne Hathaway and long-time crusader Leonardo DiCaprio. Being environmentally responsible is a movement that’s not a trend – because it’s only set to become bigger. We’ll bet almost everyone has a friend or colleague who’s known to be a tree-hugger, so why not get a great gift that’ll score you (and the planet) some brownie points?
Here, some stylish gift ideas that they’ll thank you for this Christmas:
When green goddess/whiner (depending on which side you feel about her) Gwyneth Paltrow personally uses a beauty product, you can bet it’s usually a winner. Kosas’ lipsticks are sweeping the green beauty world – they’re reportedly extremely creamy and moisturising (bye bye dry lips) and give full coverage with only a few swipes. Doesn’t hurt that they come in these sleek monochromatic packaging that could hold their own against conventional makeup brands.
Don’t believe me? Check out Paltrow using the lipstick right here.
For those who like it luxe but is also environmentally responsible (hey, nobody said you had to be hippie, and if you’re still equating eco-friendly = hippie, get with the times), Tiffany’s uber-stylish straws will have you sipping your green juice in style.
We prefer it so much more to wasteful, single-use plastic items like take-away cutleries – wouldn’t you?
Part of Mango’s all-new eco-friendly range aka Mango Committed, this gorgeous ikat-print skirt will probably have people asking you where you got it. Best part? You can feel good (about the environment) while wearing it!
Think eco-friendly clothes are all caftans and hippie wear? New local brand Esse (established just this August) will prove you wrong -we’re totally digging the clean and simple lines of their everyday-friendly designs. Find out more about the label here.
Shoes are rarely considered in the eco-friendly stakes but American collective Rafa specialises in using sustainable materials and ethical wages. Bonus? Their designs look totally contemporary as well.
Local label Amado Gudek uses innovative materials like bioresin and driftwood to come up with artistic designs – perfect for that particular friend who’s always going to exhibitions and museums.
Ditch your conventional antiseptic wipes and go for Dr Bronner’s, which derive mostly from organic lavender oil, which is known to possess great antibacterial properties. I personally use it myself and it smells great to boot!
Now this is something everyone could use – a T-shirt. Brand-new local label Source Collections (established just last month) is going for the gold with its well-cut T-shirts that are made from fabrics like Tencel – which is made from wood cellulose and is regarded as one of the most sustainable fabrics currently available. Check out our profile of the label here.
