Fashion Writer’s Picks: The Statement Shoes Of The F/W’17 Season

by KENG YANG SHUEN  /   August 10, 2017

As the infamous Carrie Bradshaw once said, “The fact is, sometimes it’s hard to walk in a single woman’s shoes. That’s why we need really special ones now and then – to make the walk a little more fun.” Some women are bag ladies, other go nuts over shoes, and still others geek out over skincare, jewellery, what have you. If you’re into shoes, these are some of Fall/Winter 2017’s most exceptional pieces.

Fashion Writer's Picks: The Statement Shoes Of The F/W'17 Season
#1: Silk, viscose and feather sandals, $1,750, Prada
image

Prada’s F/W’17 collection was richly textured with fabrics such as marabou feathers, corduroy and mohair. These sandals continue right in that vein with its explosion of feathers.

#2: Lurex fringe fabric pumps, Salvatore Ferragamo
image

As you can tell, I’m a suck for unusual textures and Salvatore Ferragamo’s debut collection by new shoe director Paul Andrew is off to a good start, especially with this interesting design.

#3: Lace mary-janes, Gucci
image

Lace may typically be seen as a traditional fabric but Gucci’s modernised it with this sunny orange hue.

#4: Sequinned patent leather bootie, MSGM
image

Stripes get amped up with the MSGM treatment – loud and in-your-face with an unconventional colour combination and sequins.

#5: Leather loafers, $1,050, Bally
image

Bally has in recent years become known for its loafers and the update this season comes in a lovely metallic green shade that discreetly nods to the sci-fi trend.

#6: Suede and crystal pumps, Dries Van Noten
image

Dries Van Noten celebrated his 100th fashion show with the F/W’17 collection and as ever, he’s a master at mixing colours and fabrics – this unusual pump also made it to my fashion editor’s list.

#7: PU boots, $89.90, Mango
image

If, like model/actress Cara Delevingne, you’ve caught the futuristic bug in a big way, these boots from Mango will be a step in the right direction.

#8: Leather stiletto roller skates, Saint Laurent
image

When I first caught sight of these, I wondered if they might be real – but yes people, Saint Laurent will be retailing these heels-on-wheels – skating looks to be fashion’s next obsession.

#9: Leather pumps, Saint Laurent
image

But for those who want more down-to-earth options (literally), opt for these instead.

#10: Leather and fur sandal, Marni
image

Marni’s F/W’17 collection might have polarised critics but I’m definitely on board with the accessories, especially this quirky one with the glass bulb heel.

#11: Leather and fabric boots, Fendi
image

Red is the colour of the season and the ultimate red shoe this season is Fendi’s thigh-high version.

#12: Embroidered leather boots, Roger Vivier
image

Inspired by the Ottoman empire, Roger Vivier’s bootie comes richly embroidered with whimsical floral motifs.
