If fashion at large hasn’t already proven that the time for collaborations — and, by the truckload — is now, Comme des Garcons‘ (CDG) 9-brand strong drop incoming is pretty much a loudhailer for the sentiment. Although known for their seasonal Nike, Converse and Supreme tie-ups plus, that Louis Vuitton Rei Kawakubo bag, CDG has joined forces with 9 other heavyweights and cult favourites in the industry for a 10-piece collection to ring in the holidays.
That’s Burberry, Craig Green, Gucci, Maison Margiela, Jean Paul Gaultier, Marine Serre, Simone Rocha, Stussy and Walter Van Beirendonck lending their modus operandi to one garment or accessory each — with the final piece being a friends and CDG T-shirt. Instantly recognisable iconography, logos and tropes of the aforementioned brands cameo in the holiday release, and there’s really no points for guessing what’s what; Burberry’s check, Gucci’s green and red stripe, Simone Rocha’s bow and Marine Serre’s crescent motif are distinctive, amongst others. CDG’s Adrian Joffe asserts that this marks Maison Margiela’s first ever collaboration with another brand, tipping the specific piece as a serious collectible.
