The past few seasons have seen bags in all their variations – structured, multi-functional, impossibly miniature and by the looks of Givenchy’s latest proposition, defiantly oversized. For Fall 2020, the French luxury house takes cues from a house favourite – the much-loved everyday-friendly Antigona bag – while kicking things up a couple of notches.
Introduced as part of Givenchy’s Fall 2020 ready-to-wear collection, the Antigona soft is a laidback reiteration of its predecessor. Key markers of the structured original remain – from its triangle patch to its geometrical shape – but those in need of a weekend counterpart might take to the Antigona Soft’s (much) roomier, calf-skin clad construction.
The Antigona Soft comes in two sizes (medium and large) and its no-fuss silhouette and removable shoulder strap makes way for considerable versatility. Think: hand-held for daily errands, over-the-shoulder for a weekend trip and cross-body for a busy workday. The bag also consists of dual zip closers, turn-lock fastenings, card pockets as well as zipped compartments so you can keep track of all essentials.
Despite all its functionality, the bag doesn’t forego the house’s penchant for sleek design. It comes in nine rich colours – which include pearl gray, aubergine and candy pink – but if you’re not one for solids, you can choose from variational styles such as printed stripes and dip-dyed leather.
With prices starting at $2,650 for all that function and variety, we think it’s safe to say the era of the maxi is making its comeback.
