While most countries are still under lockdown in one way or another, Seoul has moved on to ease social distancing restrictions. This takes us to the recently opened exhibition by Gucci in Seoul’s Daelim Museum. Titled No Space, Just A Place. Eterotopia, the immersive exhibition is the brainchild of Tunisian-French curator Myriam Ben Salah who explored the idea of the “other space” where humans can relate and connect with each other in different realms – an apt topic given how the notion of social distancing has changed so much in the past few months.
To build on the idea of different spaces existing together, Ben Salah has gathered 14 artists and art spaces to set up their own universes across the museum’s three floors. Among them is the New York-based artist Olivia Erlanger. Her surrealist installation Ida, Ida, Ida! transformed an area on the first floor of the building into a laundromat inhabited by mermaids. Other exhibits include a video installation by D/P which showcases the mind-boggling performance Tongue Gymnastics by choreographer Yunjung Lee. While visiting the exhibition before it ends on July 12 is out of the question for most of us here due to travel restrictions, you can still enjoy the experience by catching a virtual tour here.
