Who doesn’t want to be in the pink again right now? Especially in that jolt of shocking pink we witnessed on some of the Fashion Week-goers at the recent Fall/Winter 2020 shows. Otherwise known as Schiaparelli pink, this hue has since been synonymous to the Italian designer Elsa Schiaparelli since 1937 with her bold and fanciful designs.
The designer’s use of that shocking shade of magenta was her way of finding inspiration and escape from the global conflict of the times. Today, the colour has come to symbolise feminine energy. From Elle Wood’s penchant for all things pretty in pink in Legally Blonde to the album Hot Pink by American rapper Doja Cat – pink has withstood the test of time and has been the emblem for women all around the world.
The Pink Brigade
So how exactly did the street style peacocks repped the splashy hue at the recent Fall/Winter 2020? For starters, the uber-feminine shade landed on not just your archetypal princess frocks. It made a bold statement when worn as a co-ord ensemble like suits. On more streetwear-leaning looks, the shade adds a girly playful touch. A colour that makes us feel confident and still young-at-heart? Consider us sold.
