If you have yet to complete your Chinese New Year shopping and preparation, here is a news flash: the big day which descends upon on us on February 12 is going to be a 15-day affair. With the restrictions on house visits and reunions tighter than usual this year due to the ongoing pandemic, festivities are also bound to take on a different pace in this new normal.
Now the good news: Ion Orchard is spreading the Chinese New Year cheer till the end of the month with its events and promotions to ring in the Year of the Ox. Titled ‘Rise In Valour’, this two-month-long campaign began on January 22 and will run until February 26, and sees a slew of activities and rewards for shoppers. Talk about abundance.

What is on the outside of red packets matters just as much as what’s on the inside, if you ask us. So if presentation is key to you, the aesthetic of Ion Orchard’s hong bao design this year will score. The wallpaper-inspired design features motifs of oranges and lion dance which are perennial symbols of the festivities. The packets are exclusively for Ion+ Rewards members who spend a minimum of $80 and can be redeemed at the mall’s concierge counters at Level 4, Level 1 and B3, while stocks last.
Games – and getting a bounty of good fortune and luck – are central to any CNY celebration. From February 11 to February 26, you can take part in a virtual Red Packet Lucky Dip organised by the mall. To play, simply scan the QR code on the inside flap of your Ion Orchard Red Packet and you can stand to win up to 88 Ion+ Points, equivalent to $35 in shopping vouchers. The draw is limited to 10,000 Ion+ Rewards members only and terms and conditions apply.
Can’t wish your friends and family the customary New Year greeting in person due to social distancing? Do so digitally with the series of wacky and fun stickers that Ion Orchard has launched as part of its collaboration with local brand Ang Ku Kueh Girl and Friends. This sticker pack can be used for WhatsApp and Telegram messages and is downloadable via Google Play, App Store and Telegram.
From now until February 26, get up 56 floors above Orchard Road to soak in a multimedia experience at Ion Sky. Currently showing is the moving tale Adventures in Food Wonderland by Ang Ku Kueh Girl and Friends and The Transformation of Orchard Road by Dick Lee. Get your complimentary ticket to the screenings when you spend $20 in a single receipt at stores in Ion Orchard. For updates to shows, head over to www.ionorchard.com/ion-sky.
No Chinese New Year party is complete without an adrenaline-charged performance from the de rigueur lion dance troupe. Ion Orchard has come up with a novel way to spread the cheer with a virtual lion dance display on its Facebook page, happening from now to February 15. There is even a contest accompanying each performance which allows you the chance to walk away with 168 Ion+ points (worth $67 in shopping vouchers).
