“I used to love the sound of flashbulbs going off at the shows in the eighties, when the models were on a raised runway. I wanted to recapture that emotion,” declared Virginie Viard in the press notes for Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2022 show which took place on October 5.
Virginie Viard staged a nostalgic throwback to the Chanel shows of the ’80s for her Spring/Summer 2022 runway collection.
And recapture that emotion she did, as models traipsed, winked, twirled and sashayed down the runway the same way the Chanel supers like Naomi, Carla and Claudia did back in the day for Karl Lagerfeld. And in the same way that shutterbugs captured the catwalk action decades ago, photographers lined the length of the catwalk for their shot.

Equally exciting was the front row crowd which was packed with friends of the house, ambassadors and stars from the world of show business, including German singer Lary and actresses Rebecca Dayan and Kristine Froseth. Making the biggest entrance was brand ambassador Jennie Kim of Blackpink who is the face of the upcoming Coco Neige skiwear collection.
