Well, sorta. The hamburger – or cheeseburger to be specific – in question is the outre costume by Moschino that the Electric singer wore to the 2019 Met Gala.
Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott pulled it out of retirement and from storage for a tap dancing scene in the musical he created for the house’s Resort 2022 collection which dropped last night (June 29).
It was the perfect topping (jump to 3:50 in the clip below) for the over-the-top and very camp show – titled Lightning Strikes – which is best described as a cross between Hairspray and a Marc Cherry production.
Shot on the grounds of Universal Studios lot, the roughly seven minute-long production is set in an American diner and features model-songstress Elson dressed as a waitress with superstar dreams.
The medley of tunes Elson belted out included covers of Everybody Dance and Funkytown, as well as the self-penned song Lightning Strikes. To complete Scott’s technicolour vision, the cast was dressed in designs that ranged from Dick Tracy-esque tailoring and Old Hollywood silhouettes.
On her Instagram, Elson shared how she and Scott “daydream about collaborating on a project for @moschino where fashion, meets music, meets dance, meets pure joy.”
If Lightning Strikes is a taste of celluloid dreams that Scott can create, we say, give let the man create a TV show already.
