Decades before the words Paula’s and Ibiza were synonymous with Spanish luxury fashion house Loewe, they were both burgeoning hotspots of youth, vitality and bohemian charm in the ’70s and ’80s. The former was a famous Freddie Mercury-approved clothing boutique that housed an extensive selection of hippie garbs and the latter, a breathtaking island that attracted visitors from all over the world. Under the helm of founders Armin Heinemann and Stuart Rudnick, Paula’s would go on to be immortalised as a nonconformist’s paradise and Ibiza, a canvas for raves, exploration and unabashed hedonism.
Fast forward to 2016 and Jonathan Anderson’s memories of the Balearic islands birthed Paula’s Ibiza, Loewe’s electric and vibrant summer collaboration with Heinmann and Rudnick. Three years on and the playful spirit of the collection – one that Anderson calls a “visual feast” – still stands strong.
Here’s what you can expect from Paula’s Ibiza’s newly-launched 2020 collection: the debut of its very first fragrance (with notes of coconut water and ambergris) and what is the most jubilant and commercially-viable outing ever in the collaboration’s four-year history. The accessories and ready-to-wear pieces are drenched in bright neons, tie-dyes, and punchy florals, while some of your Loewe favourites get an island makeover too. These include the much-loved mini Hammock drawstring bag and ultra-adorable elephant bag topped off with intricate waterlily detailing. A fitting pick-me-up for current times? We think so.
P.S. Every purchase will also see €40 (S$61) donated towards the educational projects for children affected by Covid-19 in Spain.
