The girly pieces cropping up at New York Fashion Week have continued over the pond at London Fashion Week. The latter, however, has always been a hotbed for young designers who often put a more subversive spin on trends (as compared to the other major fashion capitals) – and we love the Brits for that. Here, the looks that aren’t your typical pretty frou-frou affairs:
Rocha’s take on prettiness included her signature borderie anglaise on hems, prim lace gloves and lots of romantic florals. The unexpected pairing of ungainly galoshes with these pretty dresses made us think of an English rose (the figurative British girl, not the flower) tending to her garden.

Mixing the prettiest pastel-hued chiffon with lots of glitter, Preen perfectly demonstrated that eclectic, slightly off-kilter vibe that the Brits are so good at.
P.S.: The beauty look they’ve gone for includes real flowers pressed to models’ faces and clavicles with eyelash glue. How’s that for an ingenious update on the ubiquitous and overdone flower crowns? We are so on board with this.
The juggernaut of London Fashion Week is always Burberry, which is showcasing its Fall 2016 collection instead of Spring 2017 in a move towards the “see-now-buy-now” movement that’s shaking up the industry currently.
Consolidating the men and women’s collections into one, Christopher Bailey went for a Victorian vibe, inspired by Virginia Woolf’s seminal book Orlando. Hence: There were loads of feminine ruffles and billowing sleeves that would look equally good on women and men (and wouldn’t look out of place on Captain Jack Sparrow), as shown above. Best of all? You can purchase these looks on www.burberry.com now.
